It is so much fun playing in the Splitcoaststampers challenges. The Ways to Use It challenge this week was to create cards with little boy themes. There is no set or image any cuter anywhere than the retired Stampin’ Up! set Little Boys. The Free For All challenge was to create a card with lots of layers. I decided to combine the challenges and create a scene around the little boys playing pirates.
I decided to create my layers from the inside out instead of the other way around. My first layer is the tree and sky, the second is the fence layer that I cut out with a craft knife. The third, fourth and fifth are the three layers of graduated frame and finally the sixth is the little boys playing pirate in the back yard.
The tree trunk was sketched on watercolor paper using a waterproof artist pen and the top was sponged on then filled in with my mini fern image from my Outdoor Master. The sky was lightly sponged with blue ink. I sponged in ground area on the second layer of watercolor paper and then I sketched the fence, painted and cut out the fence sections with a craft knife. I wanted the tree and background to show through the fence posts for dimension. I created the frame using three graduated Nestabilities dies. The little boys image was stamped and watercolored with reinkers mixed with water. I love how cute the boys look popped up on the crimped frame and the dimension they create with the scene in behind them.
Here is a closer view of the scene looking straight in.
I hope you are having a great weekend.

Super cute card. I was wondering if you had used some sort of corrugated paper… then I read that you used a crimper. I have one somewhere that I’ve never used! LOL!! Guess I need to find it! As always… thanks for the inspiration!
Gorgeous card! The depth is just incredible!
Amazing and cute, Kittie! Incredible cutting on that fence. I always struggle to cut out anything with a craft knife without it looking like a hatchet job. Beautiful dimension and darling scene!
fun scene, too cute!
