It’s My Birthday!

Today is my 60th birthday.  So many people hate their birthdays to roll around because it means getting older.  I embrace my age and am thankful for all that I have. I have my health,  a wonderful husband, beautiful sisters and brother-in-laws,  nieces and nephews. a multitude of wonderful friends, a good roof over my head and a good job that allows me to earn a living.  What else could anyone ask for.  So today I celebrate turning one year older and consider it far better than the other alternative.

The Free For All challenge on SCS today is to create a project based on the Fun and Funky July Holidays. My project was made for the Stay Out of the Sun holiday.

I haven’t played with the trees in  my Kittie Kits Outdoor Master for a while and thought it would be nice to create a shady garden area with lots of flowers.  To help create just a little protection from the sun I added the umbrella mounted over the Adirondack chair. I stamped the trees on watercolor paper with brown ink, heat set and then lightly brushed in brown in with a dry brush using a stipple motion.  I used the fern image to add leaves to the tree tops and then sponged in green grassy area on the ground.  I used the sponge tip to smear the ink around on the tree leaves to fill in for added depth.  I mounted the die cut frame to the scene and then attached the cut out Adirondack chair and umbrella.  I finished by applying foliage and punched flowers to create a pretty garden.  I would like to have this special spot in my back yard to sit and relax.

Here’s a couple extra views.

  6. Your attitude about age is so reflected in your art – it is timeless and beautiful. Kitty, I wish you a very happy b-day and it reminds me to think about age like you do. Like you said, it’s better than the alternative!!!

  7. Happy Birthday, Kittie. Sixty years young is a great attitude – I look at my FIL who is over 90 and only stopped driving because of a cataract operation. In his 80s he was still redesigning the garden and digging new beds. And then I look at my dad, and people I worked for, who just sort of give up and don’t make the most of what they’ve got.
Have a wonderful combined birthday and holiday weekend.

You card is fabulous and wouldn’t that be a beautiful place to sit and read a book?

  9. Happy Birthday, Kittie. 60 is a great age…I will be 60 on Tuesday the 5th and I feel the same way. What more could you ask for, except for more time to make cards. I also want to thank you for your inspiration and creativity. I love looking at all you create and it makes me want to learn more and try different techniques. Thanks again and have a very Happy Birthday!!
