Poinsettia and Blog Candy

Good Sunday morning.  I’m sure you all realize by now that I have gone crazy for paper flowers. When I saw the Spellbinder Layered Poinsettia die set I knew I had to have it for Christmas cards. It seems while I was shopping on line recently I was so excited about purchasing this set that I accidentally put two in my shopping cart.  I laughed out loud at myself when I opened my package and saw two of them had come with my order. I decided it would make perfect blog candy to accompany my post today. All you have to do to qualify is leave me a comment telling me your favorite style of Christmas card to make during the holidays.

I cut out three different sized red poinsettia blossoms and one large olive green blossom. I shaped the petals by rolling a stylus on the backside of the paper while laying on a mouse pad.   I added depth to the flower by sponging on cranberry ink to each petal.  I repeated the same with the green using peeled paint ink. Using glossy accents I attached each layer alternating the petals to create the flower.  I cut the green leaves and attached them to the bottom of the flower allowing them to extend past the largest layer.  I applied glossy accents to the head of three gold brads and dipped them in gold glitter and allowed to dry.  I cut the clasps off the back of the brads and glued them in the center of the flower.  I attached the flower to the sentiment layer of the card and then applied a few sprigs of punched pine to add softness. Here are a couple other views.

My favorite Christmas cards are the ones that reflect why we celebrate this wonderful season, the Birth our our Lord Jesus Christ. We sometimes forget the real reason for Christmas with all the glitter and glitz and commercialization. Inside my cards I have on occasion enclosed the story of the first Christmas. It makes the holiday real. Your card is beautiful as always.

  102. Kittie this poinsettia is just gorgeous! You make the most beautiful flowers and sprays. I would love to win this Nestie! Poinsettias are one of my favorite decorations for Christmas.
I like to make religious cards and snowmen cards for Christmas.
    Thanks,

  103. I love what you did with pointsettia to give the pedal’s depth, Kitty. Simple yet elegant. All of your work is just lovely. I enjoy watching your blog almost daily.

  104. Kittie, I really enjoy seeing your creations but these poinsettia cards are gorgeous. The majority of my Christmas cards share about the birth of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I usually make 3 or 4 different styles. I also enjoy making some fun cards as well with a few traditional ones thrown in for good measure. haha Blessings!

  105. My favourite Christmas card would be an easel one. I love poinsettia’s in white but love making blue cards as it is our summer in Australia. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.

  107. I received this die pack this morning and am delighted to have found your tutorial and beautiful card. A somewhat belated “Thank You” but I guess it proves the good things in life never go out of style! Happy Christmas 2018 to you and yours. Marion in the UK
