Mother and Baby Deer

Good Saturday.  I hope you are having a great weekend.  I missed posting a few days due to my work schedule and lack of card making energy. Do you ever have one of those weeks?

My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge.  Our inspiration site this week is Denizmum.  I was inspired by this darling group of handmade baby reindeer.

The site is full of darling baby toys so I was inspired to make a mommy and baby deer card with lots and lots of pink but still creating a woodsy scene around the deer.

I started by cutting the deer out of kraft cardstock and lightly sponging them with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I added the white to the ears and bodies using a tiny dry brush and white watercolor paint straight out of the tube and mixed with no water. I used the brush tip to apply the dots on the baby and the ears and then I used a stipple motion to apply the light white shading on both bodies. KC Memory Box Deer Trio 4 close

I cut the tree using kraft paper and then applied brown reinker to it with a dry brush in a stipple motion to create the look of textured bark. I created the leaves for the tree by punching just the tip section of the Punch Bunch fern  and applied them to the tree branches.  I used the smaller of the flowers from the Flower Mound die to create the tiny flowers and attached them to the tree. I always glossy accents for this kind of work as it dries quickly and created such a great bond. I applied rolled up glue dots to the back of the tree and attached to the card base.

I cut three sections of Grassland Border and attached to the card base to create the woodsy grass. The back section of grass was attached directly to the base.  The second section was attached with rolled glue dots to create a tiny separation for dimension and the front row of grass was attached using mounting tape. I cut the tree two more times using green paper and cut the branches into smaller sections, added tiny flowers to them and inserted them between the grass to soften the scene. The butterflies were the perfect finishing touch for this sweet scene.

My heart will be broken when I run out of this retired pink stripped Stampin’ Up! paper.  I love it!

Thanks for stopping by today.  Have a wonderful weekend.

  2. Kittie,
Love this card -well love all your cards but love how you used the white on the deer. Makes them so realistic. Was hoping to see you today at Stampfest in Orlando.
