Gothic Arch Christmas Window

Good Saturday morning.  My project today was made using the Poppystamps Small Gothic Window and Small Gothic Arch.  Thank you so much for all the suggestions you offered on how to create lovely stained glass window backgrounds to pair with all the newly released window dies by Poppystamps.

Several of you suggested using a piece of packing tape on the back of the window allowing the sticky side to show through the front and applying a fine glitter for a frosted window effect.  Many of you suggested coloring the back of the tape with alcohol markers to show through the frosting of the glitter. I am trying that next.

I die cut the window twice with white and the arch once in black. I attached the arch to the front window and then attached a piece of tape to the back. I sprinkled diamond glitter to the sticky side of the tape to create the frost.

I used the arch die to cut an opening in the front of the card and the scored layer separately and then attached the scored layer to the base. I attached the window to the base with mounting tape for added dimension. I crimped small pieces of cardstock and attached to the top of the scored layer. I wanted to create the appearance of wainscoting.

I created the red miniature poinsettias and green pine spray to pop against all the white for the perfect holiday decoration.

  3. I have been a fan of your cards for some time now..you are such an inspiration. I live in a very very small town in sw Manitoba Canada and do not have the availability to products readily. I have found Joan’s Garden and wow..my inventory has risen 100%. Thank you for brightening my “every” day with your beautiful artwork.

  4. This is gorgeous!! Your “glass” window is amazing. Here is another technique if you don’t know about it… I use Glitter Ritz highlight glitter. (Elizabeth Craft Designs) and once it is burnished on according the directions, the glitter doesn’t keep falling off. But then the cool thing is that you can color it with your Copics and you can get the most stunning shadowing/shading effects.

  5. Lovely card. Love how you did the stained glass.
Did you see where Joan’s Garden is using egg shells
for a mosiac stained glass window. Looks like there
are many ways to create these windows. You always do
such lovely work. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Oh GOSH……
As usual I can only say Iยดm so impressed..LOVE your cards and all the pretty details !I have been big admirer for quite a while.Always looking forward to see if you have posted a new card. The only “disadvantage” of knowing about your blog is that one can feel soooo tempted to buy the necesary supplies…LOL
About stained glass techniqes : I also saw the egg shell mosaic technique .It might work here with these dies. Also try cut an extra arc part as stencil.Fasten it to vellum and color with Liquid Pearls. It has such a pretty shine and are so easy to apply evenly. And has good coverage.Remove stencil arch and mount the colored vellum with a fresh cut arch.
You could also color a piece of acetate with alcohol inks. Very easy and very bright !
By the way : Love the frosted look you achieved with this sample !
Thank you for keeping on sharing all your talents with us !!!!

  7. Wow, Kittie! This is GORGEOUS! I never thought of tape to “catch” the glitter. What a great idea. And it went on soooo smoothly. Glad you got some helpful suggestions. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Great card and great ideas from the people who read your blog. I just love your cards and think they would be lovely to put into a shadow box and hang up for the holidays. I did try the egg shell technique but ran into some difficulty with the egg shells as it was hard for me to get out the membrane. Looking forward to more loveliness from you in the future.

  9. Wow…this is incredible. I have several stained glass window brass stencils and have tried the sticky paper route with little success, but that might be due to trying to use multiple colors of glitter. Yours is sooooo beautiful with the one color that I will have to try that. I also didn’t know what to do with it once I made it. This is perfect…make it a window! Wow! TFS

  10. Good Afternoon Kittie, this is the best idea for the window and stained glass. It looks like there would be soft candle light, making the glass shine behind the frame. I love this very much…great idea. LOL

  11. This looks gorgeous – really lovely. I am wondering what the underside of the card looks like? I saw in the directions that you cut an opening in the card front and I can see the light pouring through to the inside of the card. But I can’t figure out what that side of the card looks like. Thanks for your help.

  12. WOW…your window turned out really pretty. I have the grand gothic die and I did make one yesterday and colored it with Copics to look like stained glass and it turned out really pretty…I cut the ornate part in black like you did. You have helped me decide how to finish out the card now…love what you did. I was thinking this might look pretty to do luminaires for the holidays…might look nice with a battery tea light behind it…..hummm…thanks, again for more inspiration…I’ve been in a slump and needed a boost.

  13. I’ve used this, too, and before I found this product, I hated glitter…but, you are so right…it won’t come off once burnished in real good. I’ve actually stamped on it, too. Ever try that? I was surprised it worked, but the glitter is so smooth. I do the same as you…use clear or white and then color it with Copics. Love the look.

I admire your work every day. Unfortunately I don’ have time to comment all the time.
Love the frosted glass look of your window .
Am looking forward to your next attempt in colour, though I think this one will always be my favourite.

  15. Wow Kittie:
This card is so gorgeous. I am so glad that I found your blog. You are such an inspiration. You are so talented, and ALL your cards are so beautiful. I have learned so much from your techniques. I was at a stamp convention last weekend, and one of the vendors used the tape from a lint roller to adhere her glitter. She die cut a flourish, put the roller tape behind the negative part and added glitter. It was stunning. I love what you used for the stained glass. Reminded me of the frosted winter windows. Thanks for sharing.
