Honoring My Friend, Pat

Good Monday morning.  My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Queen for the Day challenge and I am honoring my dear sweet friend, Pat Smethers.  Pat is an incredibly talented and artistic paper crafter and inspires so many.  I was especially inspired by her Fly Away card seen below.

I love flowers and butterflies and this card just screamed inspiration to me.  Here’s what I came up with.

I die cut the decorative layers.  I left the die on the smaller layer to create a mask and stamped the mini fern image all around the border.  I then used my color box stylus and foam tip to sponge ink around the border to fill in.  I used the mini fern image again to stamp the bright pink to soften. I attached the masked frame to the main card base using mounting tape

I die cut the flower and foliage.  I formed the leaves using the stylus and molding pad from the accessory tool kit.  I used the tweezers from the kit to roll the flower.  I attached the foliage to the card front using glossy accents.  I attached the ribbon tails with glue dots and then attached the flower with glossy accents.  I cut and attached several butterflies to soften the card and to add another pop of color. Here are a couple closer views.

I really love the Victorian feel of the Radiant Rectangles and think it pairs perfectly with the soft spiral daisy and butterflies.

  2. Both the cards are stunners – the one you CASEd and yours! I esp love the pointillism look of the pink and green throughout. The butterflies are so beautiful sprayed out on the greenery like that. Just amazing Kittie!

  4. Dotty, I used the same die that I used to cut the top layer of my card front. I folded a piece of cardstock for the card back, fit the die over the folded piece leaving the top fold inside the die so it wouldn’t cut. When I ran it through my Big Shot it cut it out to create a folded piece just the perfect size to fit in behind the card without showing. That was hard to explain so I hope it makes sense.
