Good Monday morning. I have a diorama project to share with you today made using the Impression Obsession Hill Town, Fir Trees and Fir Tree Border.
I was first introduced to diorama card making back in 2008 as a Splitcoaststampers Technique Lovers Challenge. You can find the tutorial on SCS here. I couldn’t resist sharing a picture of it. It was not as easy to create a dimensional scene back then as we had no clue about dies. We did have punches for simple things like squares, circles, etc.
If you wanted to create something like my project you stamped your images, colored and cut out with either snips or a craft knife. When I first pulled up this blog post to look for this project I grimaced remembering cutting out all of those individual fence posts with a craft knife so the water could be seen through them. LOL! We’ve come a long, long way in paper crafting since then.
The dimensions of my project are different than the tutorial linked above. The front and back layers are 8” x 5” and were scored at 1.5” on each end. The inner layer is 6.50” x 5” and was scored at .75” on each end. I wanted the card to be taller and I wanted the layers to closer together. I did follow the basic tutorial steps of assembling the card.
I cut the opening in both layers. The inner layer opening is cut slightly smaller than the front layer. I cut and colored the little town houses. I attached them to the back of the inner layer opening and attached a white layer of snow on the front of the opening. I added a layer offir tree border and ground snow on the front below the row of houses and attached it with mounting tape to appear standing out in front of the houses. I attached a couple layers of trees to the back of the houses.
I cut a white snowy mountain and attached fir trees to the back of it. I attached the mountain and trees to the back layer of the card with mounting tape to add depth and dimension. Here’s a closer view.
I finished by adding a snowy ground layer to the front of the card and attached a few random fir trees for the final finishing touch. I really love how this turned out. It took quite a bit of time but was worth it.
I appreciate you coming by and I hope you have a great day.

Just lovely–you’ve inspired me again. Having only gotten back into cardmaking in the last year or so, I was wondering just the other day when dies became a “thing” as I can remember having to fussy cut (hate!) a LOT 10 years ago. I even have some of my old metal stencils LOL.
This card is incredible, Kittie! You have created such a beautifully, peaceful scene – perfect for Christmas. I will definitely be giving this a try.
They’re both unbelievable Kittie! I … am at a loss for words! I do love the snowy dotted papers you used for the snow, and it looks like liquid applique for the ocean wave foam? very cool. I’ll check out the tutorial at SCS. ♥
Wow, another stunning creation. This just blows me away. It is beautiful.
good evening, Kittie, this awesome, awesome, what a clever idea to do. Beautifully done. thank you for the connections to SCS and your input. ……have a good evening.
Wow, Kittie, this may be my favorite card of yours EVER! This is just fabulous, amazing, awesome! Thanks so much for sharing the details and providing so much inspiration!
Hey Kittie!
I remember those days of “fussy cutting” and loved BOTH versions of you Diorama! Glad our tools have allowed us to remove the “fussy” and just have FUN creating!
Totally love your little village snuggled into the fir covered hills!
Wow Kittie, this is amazing! I don’t think I would ever try to re-create this myself1 I just love looking at it!
Beautiful snowy diorama! I love it!
Well, this is a masterpiece, Kittie! I believe it’s my favorite of all your cards (that is, until the next masterpiece) LOL! Just gorgeous.
Wow! I just love all the layers and dimensions. Just a wonderful creation! Thanks for sharing.
