Christmas Eve Window and Birdhouse

Merry Christmas Eve. I hope you are enjoying your day and having a good time with family and friends and preparing for Christmas.  My husband will be off work tomorrow and that is a Christmas present in itself.  I am tackling making my first standing rib roast for tomorrow’s dinner so keep your fingers crossed for me.  I have made many beef roasts in my years of cooking but never one that I almost had to mortgage my house for.  LOL!  I did a Google search for recipes and loved Paula Deen’s fool proof recipe because it looked so simple and easy.  Any and all suggestions welcome.  Smile

My project today is one of my all time favorite kind of cards to make.  I love windows, birdhouses and snow and they came together to create a wonderful holiday greeting.  Living in Florida (it was 80 degrees here yesterday) never allows for a white Christmas so I enjoy them through my childhood memories and my card making.

I started by cutting strips of cardstock to attach to the card base to create the siding.  I used the window as a template to draw the cutting lines for the window opening and cut it out with my craft knife.  I attached the outside window to the card front with mounting tape. I attached the drapes and valance to the inside opening of the window and then attached a window over top of it to cover the rough cut and finish the card.

I cut the birdhouse to use as a template and covered it with tiny strips of cardstock to match the siding on the house and punched the opening with my 1/8” circle punch.  I cut a second birdhouse and a hand cut roof using kraft cardstock and colored them with my mini applicator and brown ink.  I cut the fence, cut a snowy strip of cardstock to the front base and attached the fence under the window with a double layer of mounting tape. I attached the birdhouse to the scene with mounting tape.  I decorated the window top with fir sprigs and added a red bow for a pop of color. I decorated birdhouse to match the window and then covered them both with glossy accents and flower soft.  I love how it softens the scene.  I love how the red cardinals pop against the white and green.

Here’s a closer view of the birdhouse.  I think it is so cute.

I applied glossy accents to the bottom of the window, fence and ground area and covered with flower soft.  I love that stuff.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas Eve.

  1. You make the most beautiful scenes and totally LOVE this window scene. Makes me feel like I’m over on the East Coast. We don’t have snow here in Hawaii too except occasionally on Mauna Kea on the Big Island. Thanks for sharing the recipe for the Foolproof Standing Rib Roast. I must definitely try it one day. 2. Kittie, If you ever want to come to Michigan, to enjoy the white entertainment this winter, you are welcome! Your cards are an inspiration to me. I am amazed at your ability to see in your mind, and then have the understanding to create it!!! I have a question for you, how did you make your drapes??? Is this material? All your creations are beautiful !

  3. Standing Rib Roast hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!! What time should we be there? My Dad was an excellent chef and the one constant I remember is “don’t open the oven for any reason unless the recipe calls for basting or adding something”, LOL. I know you pay attention to detail so you won’t have any problem with the recipe.
You have created another piece of Winter Magic and it is gorgeous! TFS and Merry Christmas and have a wonderful dinner.
This morning was 7 degrees now it’s up to 18.

  6. This is a beautiful card Kittie! Great idea for the siding. I live in Minnesota so snow is the norm, we won’t be seeing 80 degrees anytime soon! Good luck with the roast and have a wonderful Christmas!

  7. I love all of your designs and this one is so pretty! I have to tell you that you were the reason for a quite large order for dies this month. (My gift for myself!)
I almost ordered a crown roast, but it was so expensive that I just got a regular pork roast. I like to cover mine with a rub of garlic, rosemary, and thyme. So good!
    Merry Christmas! Cindy

  8. Good afternoon, Kittie. It’s sunning an cool here in Texas. Being in central tx we don’t get the snow often that other parts of the state does. this yr Dallas got snow, early this month. But in Ky my home we have snow often. Living in NZ North Island we didn’t but the South Island of New Zealand does. a world of wonders. I haven’t roasted a standing rib either, but I now you will do well.
