Inspired Honeybee and Rose and Blog Candy

Good Saturday morning.  I have had a wonderful holiday vacation and I hope you have as well.  I took a few days off from blog posts to work on CHA sneak peek projects that will be posted in the near future. You will want to keep an eye out for the Impression Obsession design team blogs.

My project today is definitely a departure from Christmas projects.  I have to admit I have been experiencing a little bit of low mojo since I had to put Christmas things away. I made this made for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge and our inspiration site was Sharon’s McCartney’s Mix Media Fiber, Paintings and Artist Books.   I was inspired by the compact frame below with the honeybee and flowers.  I started out to use the flower colors with my bee image but ended up going in a totally different direction with the all black and white. Too me the bee was the significant focal point of the inspiration piece so I went big with bees everywhere.

Altered Compacts (large view)

I stamped the Impression Obsession Honeybee image all over my base layer to create my own designer paper.  I really like how it turned out.  I will say it is a lot of bees.  LOL!  I stamped three bees and embossed with black embossing powder and fussy cut them out to pop up on the flower and frame.

I cut the frame using my Spellbinders Matting Basics A and B and attached it to the base with mounting tape.  I cut the MFT Rolled Rose and Leafy Flourish, formed using my accessory tool kit tools and attached to the frame and base layer.  I softened the arrangement by adding a few sprigs of the Fir Sprig Set.

I attached the bee to the rose with glossy accents and used rolled glue dots to attach them to the frame. This is a bit out of my wheelhouse but I like it.

Do you like eyelet and scalloped trim?  I am offering you the MFT Dotted Scallop Border Trio die set as blog candy today.  Leave a comment telling me what your favorite border die or punch is.  My all time favorite is the Impression Obsession Border Duo 1.  You will have until  5:00 pm Thursday, Jan 2nd to qualify for the random drawing.

I love all my border punches & dies, but my current favorites are the landscape ‘border’ dies. 😉

  4. Love your card Kittie. My favorite border punch is Spellbinders (I think) and I don’t remember the name. I take my dies and put them in magnetic Art Bins to hold them. I have different bins…flowers, flourishes, frames, animals, Seasonal, etc. It is easier for me to find the die I want by having them in categories instead of by Manufacturer.

  5. I love the honey bees and love seeing your lovely work! My favorite border die (or the one that I use the most) is the small scallop border from My Favorite Things. I really need to branch out, though and use some of the other borders!

  6. Another gorgeous card Kittie and I wanted to say thank you for the inspiration and for sharing your beautiful cards this year – I love getting your emails you inspire me greatly.
Unfortunately I don’t have any border dies but my favourite border punch is by Martha Stewart – it’s very lacey and I don’t use it as often as I would like to because it doesn’t cut through a lot of card. Thank you for the chance and have yourself a fabulous New Year xx

  7. What a lovely card Kittie, love the buzzy bee’s and that gorgeous flower. Well I can see why your favorite border die is Impression Obsession Border Duo One, that’s my favorite too. Love the versatility of the two dies. With wishes for a very happy healthy 2014!

  8. Beautiful card – love black and white cards! I have a lot of border punches and some Spellbinder border dies which are beautifully detailed but my go-to is one of my first purchases-EK Success scallop border punch. Thanks for all the beautiful Christmas cards. Hope you have a safe and happy new year.

  10. My favorite border die would have to be anything with eyelet – I have a few of them in different sizes and I love them all! I also LOVE your card today – that black and pristine white coloring are just wonderful . . .

  11. I have done the same thing, but I cut and kept all the original inserts from the package. That way I can keep track of what I already have and if needed match the name. I really don’t like the packaging from Spellbinders as I find it very difficult to get the dies in and out with my sore hands. I LOVE the magnetic bins. I have also purchased 12 x 12 magnetic sheets to keep out when I am making multiple cards so that I can just keep them (the dies)all together without having them get lost in all the “mess”! lol

  14. I first want to let you know what an inspiration you have been to me. I am subscribed to your emails because I don’t want to miss one of your cards. You Christmas Cards were outstanding! I got me the window die when I saw all the beautiful cards you could make with them. Now as far as a border die that is a hard one. I use more punches not sure why, I just haven’t seen that many border dies. I do have a few and one that I really like by stampin Up. Then I also use a punch by Martha Stewart. These would be the two I use the most. I’m really sorry I don’t know the names of them. One is a scallop (the punch). I would love to win this set. Thank you for the chance to win.
One more thing or request, do you or will you ever do some u-tube video tutorials?
    Thanks again for everything!!!!!

It is really hard to pick a favorite border punch or die. I just love them. I will say the MS snowflake is my favorite, especially when combined with the coordinating corner punch.

  25. Beautiful card. While I do have a fear and run away from bees the card is oh so pretty
with the clusters of them. I wish I could get my rolled flower to look half as good as yours, but I keep trying and it seems it never quite looks good to me. I cant think of
a name of a favorite border but Im attracted to scallops and lacey borders. Looking forward to seeing many more beautiful cards of yours Kittie, Im sure there are many more Ooo’s and Aaaa’s to come.

I am looking forward to trying border dies as the punches hurt my arthritis so much. But the results of using borders are worth the pain. Thanks for sharing your talent!

  33. Hi.
What a beautiful fresh looking card. To my mind, you cant go wrong with black and white. It’s so lovely to see a “normal” card after all the Christmas craft goodies have been put away.
At the moment my favourite die is Spellbinders Scallop Borders 2. I’m so enjoying working with it and find it really versatile.
So looking forward to seeing what beautiful projects you have for us in 2014.
    Take care.

  34. Hi Kittie, I am a big fan of Christmas projects. Makes me feel like a kid again, I think. But I love these bees! I think you went the right way with the black and white too. My favorite border punch is a M. Stewart one, that’s a punch around the page one. I don’t know the name of it because when I got it I wasn’t putting the names on them :{
Thanks for the chance to win these MFT ones.
    Happy New Year, Jess

I don’t have border dies only punches…I would say MS lacy scallop and the checkerboared…but wouldn’t mind having your scallop dots…:-) Looks like we are head into Spring with your cards now…but I know we will have to have Valentines in there also…The bees made me feel like Spring is on its way.

Such a cute project, love the black and white combo and how the little bees are scattered and popped up across your card. Very cute!

I have many border punches/dies but I have maybe 2 favs. One is the Fiskar’s scalloped punch and the other is a MS punch but I no longer know it’s name; I’d love to win your dies as there is such variety in the sizes I could choose from. Thanks for the chance to get them!

  41. Hello Kitty, Thanks so much for sharing your talents, and inspiring us with your awesome cards and creations. Your attention to detail sets your cards above so many others. As to my favorite border punch or die, I would have to say it’s my Tim Holtz On the Edge Snowflake die. I just love it, and like to add chunky glitter to it. Thanks for this chance to win these dies.

  42. Kitty, what a unique card design! I love that you embossed the bees with black. My go-to punch is a Martha Stewart Edge Punch, “Doily Lace.” In fact, years ago when I was just starting to make scrapbooks for my young niece and nephew, I saw her demonstrate how to use this punch when she had her syndicated show. Thank you for all the inspiration you’ve given me this past year. Can’t wait to see what 2014 brings!

Thanks for your inspiration….I have two birthday cards to make before the end of January and I needed a boost. I’m a little brain dead right now…LOL
