Winter Bunnies and Bendi Frame

Good Saturday afternoon.  I got a late start at my craft desk this morning but I sure had lots of fun making this sweet winter bunny scene.  I surrounded the scene with a double matted frame with an arch.  I think most of us have scene some of the wonder Bendi cards over on Splitcoaststampers.  You can check out the whole gallery here and the tutorial here

I thought it would be pretty to create what I’ll call a Bendi frame that would allow another element of dimension and depth to my scene.  I cut the frame to the regular 5.5” x 4.25” but cut the card base just an 1/8th” small.  An arch was created when I attached the frame right to the edge on each side of the card base with mounting tape. Even though I started with the description of the frame first it was actually the last step in assembling my card.

I started by stamping the small fir tree on the card base to create an evergreen background for the scene.  The green trees add so much more interest and draws the eye further into the scene. I cut the trees and and bunnies using white cardstock and applied light and dark brown ink with my mini applicator. (I love those things) Smile

I applied glossy accents to the tree branches and applied a dusting of ultra fine white flower soft.  I cut snowy ground layers with my deckle scissors and crimped with my wave crimper.  I applied two layers to the card base and one to the inside of the arched frame. I attached the two side tree to the card base with glossy accents and attached the front tree with a double layer of mounting tape strips.  I wanted it to stand out in the front of the scene.  I waited to attach the bunnies to the scene until after I attached the frame.  I wanted to be sure where they would show up the best. the bunnies on both sides were attached with to the ground layer with mounting tape.  The front bunny was attached directly to the arched frame so he would stand out a bit in the front.

I tucked little pieces of pine sprigs in between the snow layers and applied a snowy dusting of flower soft.  I finished by adding tiny sprigs of pine and little red punched circles to each bunny for an added touch of Christmas to the snowy scene. I couldn’t resist adding one red bird in the tree. I added a couple of pictures from both sides of the card to show the arch in the frame and dimension of the die cuts.

I find so much joy in creating these nature scenes for holiday card.  I’m sure I will enjoy pulling out the bunnies and trees in the April and creating sweet spring scenes. As we see here bunnies are not only for Easter cards.  Smile

Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope you are enjoying your holiday season.  My husband (he’s really only 8) asks me every day if he can open one of his presents.  LOL!  Don’t they ever grow up.  Anyone else out there experiencing the same thing?

and re-create your scene. Oh, paper crimpers on their way, gotta have em LOL.

  4. Oh Kittie, this is so adorable. I am going to try and make for my GGD as she loves every animal she sees. She will love this. Did you use, for card base, watercolor paper? You have given me so many ideas on supplies and I have purchased them, but have not found time to use all yet. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful talent, and I cannot imagine being without “KITTIE KRAFTS”. HUGS AND BLESSINGS !

  5. This card is beautiful. The bunnies are very cute. Love the background and the bendy frame. Great idea to be able to add more depth, I am always trying to come up with ways to achieve more depth. I love lots of detail and layers. Thank you for sharing this inspiring, beautiful card today.
Men never grow up, I have always counted my husband as one of my children, that is just the way they are. The older they get the more child like they become. But then, we wouldn’t want to be married to Scrooge now would we!
    Have a great weekend!

  6. I always love your cute bunnies! This is a wonderful scene. And I’m curious about those mini applicators. In the past I have purchased eye shadow applicators to use for applying inks or pastels in small places. I clicked on the link you included for the mini applicators, but it’s not really possible to tell the size of something by looking at it on a computer screen so even though these look pretty much like the eye shadow applicators I’ve wondered if that is the size of them. And, I’m wondering how these might differ from eye shadow applicators which are much more reasonable in price. I’m thinking maybe the foam is a different kind of foam or something. And if that is the case does it really make a difference in the way the finished art piece looks. I’m all for quality and I realize that it does matter in some things, but my craft budget is so small I do try to make bargain products work when they give me the same results as more expensive products do.

  7. The Sofft mini applicators are a wonderful foam that allows the ink to be applied very smoothly and blended easily. Believe me when I say that I have tried all kinds of sponges, both make up and art sponges and I have never found them work as well as these. For larger projects I love the Color Box stylus and sponge tip and Inkssentials Ink Blending tool. They both have similar foam that allows for a great ink application.
The mini applicator is about the size of an eye makeup sponge tip. I hope this helps.

  10. Love your bunnies-a really beautiful and delightful scene! I never put as much detail into my own cards and i’m not the artist that you are, but I pick up ideas that improve my cards. Thank you so much for explaining how you do things. Am going to try coloring deer die cuts for my husband’s birthday card next using your technique!

  11. I just happened upon your blog, and I love it. Very easy to follow. I really like that you list the items you used as well. I have found many of these are available here in the UK. Feeling inspired. I assume the picture of the bigshot sizzex machine is what you used to cut the die shaped with, if so, thats lucky as I accidently glanced to the not very well hidden, large, box in a bag on top of the wardrobe last night and saw the very same thing waiting to be wrapped up. LOL. I didn’t really spoil the surprise as I asked for one of these, but Ihave to play thegame.
