Impression Obsession “Colors of Summer” Challenge

Good Thursday morning and welcome to the Impression Obsession design team  “Colors of Summer” challenge.  Before I start my post I want to give a warm welcome to our new design team member Karen Amidon.  Hop on over to check out Karen’s blog Paper Lilies & Ink.

I couldn’t resist creating a brightly framed mini beach scene for today’s challenge. Frames not only highlight the main focal point of a project but also add a decorative element of dimension. The Square Shaker Frame is just the perfect size to use with the Umbrella and Small Bird set embellishments on my mini scene.

I sponged in the sand using a Color Box stylus and foam tip.  I masked the sky area with a piece of Post-It Removable Labeling Tape and sponged in the ocean. I removed the tape and lightly sponged in the sky area using an ink blending tool and hand cut cloud template. I applied touches of liquid applique to the water to create the sea foam, smooshed it around with my finger to remove air bubbles and heat set. I lightly applied glossy accents over the liquid applique and sprinkled a light coating of diamond glitter. The sea oats were sketched in by hand using a distress marker.

I attached the large square frame and framed scene to the card base with mounting tape.  I made the beach towel with strips of the cardstock and attached with rolled glue dots.  The umbrella was attached with a double layer of mounting tape. The three seagulls were lightly colored with a mini applicator and attached for the finishing touch.
