Impression Obsession “Winter Chill” Challenge

Good Thursday morning and Happy New Year! Welcome to the Impression Obsession Design Team “Winter Chill” challenge  Nothing represents the bitter cold of winter like frosty snow and ice.  I paired the Tree Frame with the Small Tree Border for my project to create a large snow covered tree in the foreground and a snowy forest of trees in the distance.

I started by cutting the Tree Frame using gray cardstock and applying Pumice Stone ink with a mini applicator to add depth.  I then painted on Crafter’s Pick glue with an old brush to small sections of the tree at a time, sprinkled with Polar White Flower Soft to create the appearance of accumulated snow on the branches and set it aside to dry.

I placed a piece of Post-It removable labeling tape to a piece of scrap cardstock and then punched out a circle with 1 3/8” circle punch.  I removed the circle of removable tape from the cardstock and attached the circle to the sky area of the scene base to create a mask for the moon.  Note:  I love the removable tape for masking but it is impossible to use with a punch unless it is attached to cardstock to give support.  Otherwise the tape will just get stuck in the punch. I hand cut a ground mask out of printer paper.  I applied pumice stone ink to the sky and ground area with an ink blending tool.   I moved the ground mask a couple of times and applied ink to create the appearance of snow drifts.  I used a pumice stone marker to apply ink to individual trees and randomly stamped them one at a time to create the forest background.  I used a mini applicator to apply pumice stone ink to the base of the tree trunks to create shadows from the moonlight.  I added sparkle to the trees, ground area and moon by applying clear Wink of Stella.  It doesn’t show really well in the photos and is so much more sparkly in person.

I cut the frame using the Nesting Card Templates and hand cut a section of ground snow. I applied a touch of pumice stone ink to the piece of ground snow and applied the Wink of Stella so it would match the background.  I attached 1/4” double stick tape to the back of the frame and attached the ground snow at the bottom.  I applied another layer of double stick tape to the back of the snow layer and attached the tree frame. I applied thin strip of mounting tape to the back of the tree frame and attached to the card base.  Just looking at this moonlit frosty scene gives me chills but I love how it turned out.

  3. Oh Kittie, this is such a pretty card but I gotta say, it does look cold. About 6 years ago, we had a silver thaw here and EVERYTHING was covered with ice. Your card reminds me of that…. What a great way to start the new year…. Thank you for sharing your wonderful creativity…

  5. Happy New Year Kittie!
Your wintery scene card is beautiful! It’s pretty enough to be in a frame. Well, to be honest, that’s true with all of your cards! 🙂
All the shimmer and sparkle on this frosty scene is amazing. I think I should dig out my Flower Soft and play with it again.
    Thanks for sharing! 🙂
