Good Saturday afternoon. My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge. We were given an Abstract Art site on Pinterest for our inspiration. I’m not so much into abstract art but I was in awe of some of the art on this site. The challenge made me step out of my comfort zone a bit but I had fun. I was inspired by the Texture with Gold and Tide pieces. The challenge was to find inspiration and then set out to use mixed media to create our own art piece. I used Studio 490 Embossing Paste, Versa reinker, Versa pad, gold embossing powder, Inkssentials Ink Blending Tool, Tumbled Glass and Broken China Distress Ink, heat gun, Impression Obsession Sea Birds.
I sponged both the lighter and darker blue ink on the paper using the ink blending tool. I heat set the ink and then applied the embossing paste using a small triangle shaped palette. Once I had the larger sections of paste on the paper I lightly tapped the flat side of the palette against the paper to create the finer sections of the sea foam. I heat set the embossing paste and then applied versa reinker to small sections of the paste and embossed with gold embossing powder. I should have applied the gold with a brush so that I could have accomplished a much finer application of gold. But it is what it is.
I applied versa to the sea bird and embossing with gold embossing powder. I attached it in the sky area with mounting tape. The bird fills in some of the sky area and draws the eye up from the heavier sea foam.
Here’s a closer view of the sea foam and gold embossing. Although the gold became blobby I am still pretty happy with the project. I have to admit that I didn’t venture too far away from my love of more traditional art with the sea foam and gull. LOL! I love the ocean.
Thanks for coming by today and I hope you are having a great weekend.
Card size: 5.50” x 4.25
This is absolutely stunning. One of your finest creations to date. Very realistic looking. I could feel the bird soaring and the movement of the ocean below!
Kittie, I love this card…. you are such a creative lady….. I think I can smell the scene….and hear the waves…. Another example of your talent…thank you for sharing your creativity
I think it’s beautiful. I, too, love the ocean….so calming, even when the surf is rough.
I watched your video you sent me….I think I have it now and I even have the same pliers like you used…I think they use them for jewelry making. Thanks for the help today. You are wonderful.
Kittie,
You may be in awe of the art but I’m in awe of you! This isn’t a card or, as you call it – a project; this IS art. I too can smell the ocean, hear the waves and the bird. I love how the gold embossing came out on the waves; gives it the movement of the churning waves. I never would’ve thought to emboss on top of the paste. Just amazing!

Oh Kittie, it is hard to come up with words for how beautiful this is. Back in 2005 I moved to Maine to get away from the summer heat in the suburban Philly area. I lived four houses from the bay. While I have always loved the sea, being in Maine just reinforced that love. I think after spending childhood summers at the NJ shorepoints, mid-coast Maine appealed to me because it was so unspoiled and rugged. Your beautiful card just brings back Maine’s beauty to me,. Yes, I sadly decided to come back home and miss Maine and the sea more every day. Your beautiful card will inspire me to give your techniques a try. Thank you for sharing. It is exquisite.
Wonderful card Kittie!
