Nautical Color Blocking

Good Saturday morning.  My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge and the inspiration site was a Pinterest page focused on Color Blocking.  I was inspired by several of the images so I can’t really list just one. I liked the framing in this Mondrian Dress and the black and red in this Modamania.  I just happen to get the My Favorite Things Gift Box Cover-up die this week and thought it was perfect to use for the color blocking challenge.  I paired it with images from the Impression Obsession Mini Nautical Set and Sailboats.

I cut the Gift Box Cover-up one in black and again in red.  I cut one section of the frame in white.  The rectangle pieces that cut out of the frame have stitching all around the borders and I wanted to use those inside the frames to add interest.  Sadly the stitching on the black layers doesn’t show in the pictures.  I attached the red frame to the card base with mounting tape.  I applied ATG adhesive to the black and white rectangle pieces and attached them inside the frame openings.

The nautical images were attached to the card base using small pieces of mounting tape and rolled up double stick tape.

This was a fast and easy project to make and I think it would be perfect to use for a masculine card.  I like the cover-up frame and can think of lots of other uses for it.  My first thought is looking through a window with beautiful scenery.  I’ll have to try that next.
