Pillow Box Window Ornament

Good Tuesday morning.  I have a pillow box ornament with a winter window scene to share with you today and made using the Lawn Fawn Pillow Box die, Impression Obsession Deer Trio and Evergreen Trees.  The window and frame were made using the Nesting Card Templates.  I wish I had placed the whole scene on the back wall of the pillow box to create a mini diorama.  Next time!

I started by cutting the pillow box, evergreen trees, deer and ground section.  While the pillow box was unassembled I cut the window opening and frame and attached the frame to the opening with double stick tape.  I used the negative of the evergreen tree and dauber to sponge  in several silhouette trees with Peeled Paint ink on the blue background layer. The deer was colored using mini applicators, Antique Linen and Vintage Photo inks.  I used a white gel pen to apply falling snow on the background and evergreen trees.

The pillow box scored lines were all folded and sharpened with my bone folder.  I punched a 1/8” hole in the top fold of the box to place the ribbon hanger through. The ground piece was attached to the inside of the window with double stick tape.  The scene layer was attached with thin strips of mounting tape and then the pillow box was assembled with double stick tape. The deer and trees were attached in the scene with mounting tape. Tiny green sprigs and 1/16” punched red circles were  attached to the neck of the deer to finish.

This was really a very fast and easy project to make and I am looking forward to making several for gifts this season.  Thanks for coming by and I hope you have a wonderful day.

  1. You are SO CLEVER!! I would have never thought of creating a scene within the pillow box die!! WOW!! I can’t wait to give this a try; because, of course, I own all the dies you used … as I bought them when inspired by other projects you shared!! This looks like fun!! I would LOVE to see the diorama you mentioned. I hope you have time to make one!! 🙂
On another note, I am happy to see that you were not affected by Hurricane Matthew. Living in Melbourne, I must admit I was a tad nervous when they first predicted that it could hit us directly as a Category 4. God was looking out for Florida that’s for sure. My thoughts and prayers are with the other states up the coast.
Thanks again for the AWESOME inspiration!!

  2. Judy, I am so glad to hear you were not harmed by Matthew. I know so many other cities along the coast had damages and lost power. But it could have been so much worse.
Thanks so much for your compliment and I am so sorry “LOL” that I an enabler. We all have the shopping disease when new dies come out.

  5. This is an adorable ornament! I LOVE your scene cards because they always look like the real thing…those moments when you see a deer in person, the first snowflake and our ornaments that make us smile when we see them each year. All the things of the holiday spirit. TFS your incredible ornament.
