My Irma Vacation and Essentials By Ellen Concertina Tag

Good Friday morning!  It has been quite a while since my last post.  I attended my nephews wedding  in Maryland over the Labor Day holiday weekend and came home just in time for Hurricane Irma’s visit to Florida.  I won’t go into all the ugly details of my “Irma vacation” but we endured the Florida 90 degree temps and high humidity for ten days with no power at our house.  I have no real complaints because we remained safe during the storm and we were truly blessed with no damage to our home.  I believe in guardian angels and I know they were watching over us.  In the big scheme of things it was just a minor inconvenience compared to the devastation and destruction endured by others during all the storms.

While I was out of commission I missed being able to post my project for the new Essentials by Ellen September release.  You will definitely want to check out this release if you haven’t seen it already.  My project  was made using the Concertina Tag Dies paired with several fun images from the other new sets.

Kittie Concertina Tag

I started by cutting a white tag for the base.  I then cut a red tag and cut it into two sections for layering.  I cut the top portion of the red layer using the bottom of the cutting die to create  matching decorative layers for all three tag sections.  I attached the top portion to the white using ATG adhesive. Next I trimmed off enough of the bottom section to leave a strip of white space all the way across the three tag sections and attached it to the base using ATG adhesive and offsetting it a tad bit to allow the white bottom border show. I cut all the sentiment letters in green and the Peeking out again in white so I could create a shadow.  The words Joy, Merry and No Peeking were attached to the tag base using Crafter’s Pick Ultimate Glue.  I attached the large circles and star whole covers over the circular opening at the top of each tag.

Next I secured all the small images in my MISTI and stamped them multiple times using black versafine and then heat set.  I used markers to color the images and cut them out.  I applied Liquid Applique to the Santa hat, heat set and attached it to the O using glossy accents. I attached the candy canes to the back of the gingerbread boys and attached them to the tag base using glossy accents.  I created a dimensional Christmas tree with several layers of tree and applied tiny red ornaments using red stickles.  I cut a tiny star from Julie’s Home and Hearth set to use on top of the tree and an additional star as an additional embellishment for the merry tag section.  I attached tiny holly and berries to the N and O on the third tag using glossy accents.  I finished by applying red stickles to the berries, gingerbread boy arms and legs and the red stripes on the candy canes to add sparkle.  So sad that it doesn’t show well in the photos.

  5. So happy to see you able to post again after Irma!! After reading the news about how her course changed from early predictions, I had a feeling your power was out for a long time. So, glad to hear that your house was spared any damage.

  6. Thank goodness you’re okay. I’ve been having “Kittie Withdrawal” and it’s not a pleasant experience! Let’s hope Maria is the last of the hurricanes–here in VA we’ve dodged all the bullets so far.

  8. So glad to hear you are safe and weathered the storm without damage. Bummer on the power outage. I did send you an email to check on you as soon as we got our internet, cable, etc. back, but for the life of me don’t know where it went…not in my “sent” items. Services were so weird/spotty for almost a week, so…
We weren’t so lucky this time around. One of our neighbors’ trees fell through our home and we are in a bit of a mess here. It’s been rather stressful, but we are taking it one step/day at a time. The tree hit on the master bedroom/bath end of the house at 4 a.m., so we were lucky not to be injured. I never want to hear that horrible sound again or live through such an experience. God was watching over us for sure.
So glad you are back and love your project, as always. Looking at beautiful blog posts has been my saving grace….definitely a bright spot. Thank you.
