Good Tuesday morning. Have you seen the new Essentials by Ellen release landing page? There are wonderful sample ideas for using the new sets as well as a great coloring video by Sandy Allnock. I love the new release format on the store site so I can see all the sets at once and get inspiration at the same time. My project today was made using the new Thistle Die Set. I had lots of fun coloring the die cuts to create a fall arrangement. I know the leaves in the set are not oak leaves but I liked surrounding the acorns with the bright colors anyway.
I cut all the pieces using white cardstock. Before I started coloring my die cuts I Googled acorn photos for inspiration on how to create a realistic acorn for my project.
I loved the texture on the acorn cap in the photo. I misted water on the back of the cap pieces to soften the paper, laid them face down on the leaf pad and then used the small tipped stylus from my Garden Tool Kit to apply the markings. I turned the caps over and used mini applicators to apply Antique Linen and Vintage Photo ink to color. I colored the acorn bodies and twig branches using Antique Linen and Gathered Twigs ink. The leaves were colored using Wild Honey, Fired Brick and Peeled Paint inks. You can see a short mini video that I put on Instagram if you would like to see how I color my leaves. Be gentle as it is my first time to make a video using my iPhone. LOL! I cut the frame using Essentials by Ellen Tan Woodgrain cardstock and layered the card base with White Woodgrain cardstock.
I attached the frame to the card base using thin strips of mounting tape. I attached a few of the leaf sections and bare branches to to the card base with glossy accents to create a base arrangement for the acorns. The acorns were attached with doubled up pieces of mounting tape. Once the acorns were in place I tucked a few more branches and leaves around them to finish the arrangement. I added a tiny bit of sparkle to the acorn caps with clear Wink of Stella. I doesn’t show well in the photos but it helped distinguish the caps from the body of the acorns.
Although I didn’t use the new Thistle Stamp Set for my project I linked it below. The images are beautiful and can be used to create gorgeous floral images. Thanks so much for coming by and I hope you have a great day.
