Caring and Sharing with Paper Crafting

A few weeks ago I worked at the Orlando Scrapbook Expo with Rubbernecker Stamps and had such a wonderful time sharing paper crafting.  I saw several friends that I have known for years and made many, many new friends.  I had a very special opportunity to talk with Smita , a lady I had met several years ago at an Orlando paper crafting event.  She recently lost a family member and has had very little interest in paper crafting due to her grief.  She hadn’t really wanted to come to the Expo but had finally consented to come with two of her good friends.  I was able to share with Smita how much paper crafting and being creative has helped me get through difficult times of stress and grief over the years.  During our chat I encouraged her to get out her paper, stamps, inks and dies and to try to make a project.  I promised that being creative, even for a a short time really helps clear the mind and heart.  Meeting Smita again was one of the main highlights of that weekend.

Smita and Kittie

I was so touched yesterday when I received a text from Smita with the picture of the beautiful card below that she made using some of the dies she purchased at the show.  I asked her permission to share it on my blog.  You know there is nothing I love more than die cut scenes.  And, another fun thing is that Smita shared that when we met several years ago I had shown her how to make clouds.  I love how pronounced her clouds are in her mini scenes.

Thanks for coming by today and allowing me to share a special story.  I hope you have a great week.  You can see the dies that Smita used to make her project listed below.

  1. This is a sweet and beautiful card Smita made. It is wonderful that the two of you could meet again. I agree about crafting getting us into a calm and peaceful place. As many have said, it is their therapy. I find if I don’t have time to actually make something, that just going in my craft room and touching my pretty papers and looking at things in my stash, a calmness comes over me and gives me a different perspective on the issues at hand. Enjoy your day!

  5. A touching story, Kittie! You NEVER KNOW how you will touch someone. Smita did a FABULOUS JOB on her card! JUST MAYBE, she will be right back at her paper crafting now? Life moves on so fast, but we can’t get stuck either. We have to be continually looking forward or we’ll miss the here & now! 😉

  6. What a kind a caring person you are Kitty! I know just how Smita feels, I lost my Father in February (he was 94) and didn’t feel like doing any crafting or anything else. I didn’t post and didn’t visit many blogs, I just didn’t care. I am just getting back into crafting and actually posted something today. Smita’s card is lovely and she is very talented! Sending prayers her way.

  8. It is so true how much help creating with our supplies can ease the pain and take us away from all those thoughts we are going through, she did a terrific job on this card, so glad you were able to convince her to give it a try again!
