Good Thanksgiving morning. I have a rustic die cut window scene card to share with you today. The Window and background was stamped with the Rubbernecker Wood Grain Background and the tree and window arrangement was made using Greenery, Berries and the snow topper on the window was made using Deckle Hills. I used one Small Bird on the window arrangement and one star from the Stars Die on top of the tree..
Rustic Window and Card Base
- Cut the window and card base using Kraft cardstock.
- Secure the Wood Grain stamp in the MISTI and apply white pigment ink.
- Secure the window and background in the MISTI and stamp the image.
- Apply white embossing powder on each piece and emboss with the heat gun.
- Apply brown ink to the window and background layer using a wet wipe. Hint: the wet wipe is a perfect way to get good ink coverage over an embossed area. Just gently dab the wipe on the ink pad and smooth the ink over the whole piece.
- Set the pieces aside to dry.
The Christmas Tree
- Hand cut a piece of green cardstock in the shape of a Christmas tree triangle.
- Cut several sections of the greenery die using green cardstock.
- Cut the greenery sections into small sections and begin attaching them to the top of the tree triangle using glossy accents.
- Continue adding pieces of greenery to the tree base using larger and larger pieces as you work your way down.
- Check out my Evergreen Tree video tutorial and step by step photos over at Splitcoaststampers to see how I build my tree. The tutorial was done with different greenery branches but the procedure is exactly the same.
- Punch out several 1/8″ circles using red cardstock and attach them to the tree using glossy accents.
- Apply sparkle to the red circles using a clear overlay pen.
- Cut the gold star using metallic gold cardstock and attach to the tree using glossy accents.
- Finish the tree with a tiny red bow made using .50 cent ribbon from Michaels.
Assembling The Card Base and Window
- Use the window as a template to draw cutting lines on the window base.
- Cut the opening on the window base using a craft knife.
- Cut a matching window opening on the card base using the craft knife.
- Apply mounting tape around the window opening on the backside of the card base.
- Attach a piece of designer paper to the window opening. I used a piece of retired Kaiser Kraft Christmas paper.
- Apply double stick tape to the back of the window opening and attach the tree.
- Apply mounting tape around the edges of the window layer and a couple pieces around the window opening and attach it directly over the window opening on the card base.
- Attach the window die cut directly over the window opening.
The Window Arrangement and Snow
- Cut the greenery and berry branches using green cardstock.
- Cut the berries using red cardstock, pick them up using the jewel picker and attach them to the berry branches using glossy accents.
- Apply sparkle to the berries using a clear overlay pen.
- Attach the branches to the window base using glossy accents and continue to fill in the arrangement.
- Tuck the berry branches in behind the the front layers of greenery and attach using glossy accents.
- Check out my step by step tutorial on creating an open window and evergreen arrangement.
- Cut the deckle section using white cardstock and trim to fit the top of the window.
- Apply white embossing paste to the white layer using your finger.
- Apply white embossing paste to the branches and berries using a small stylus.
- Some of the brown ink floated up into the white embossing paste so I used touches of white gesso to cover.
- Attach one small red bird to the branches and a multi loop bow to the arrangement for the finishing touch.

Your window card is so beautiful! I love the wood grain embossing on the front and the scene inside the window is so rustic and sweet.
Thank you so much for sharing your lovely work and the details on how to! 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving to you and all your family and friends! {{{hugs}}}
This REALLY IS LOVELY, Kittie!!!! I LOVE the window scenes you create! The tree, the snow, & the wood grain are BEAUTIFUL!!! SO RUSTIC! When cards are done in the “rustic” style for Christmas, it reminds me of the basics for Christmas….. Family! I am a bit of a romantic, thinking back to how Christmas used to be YEARS AGO, on the prairies of America! Told ya, I’m a romantic! LOL 😉
Kittie,
First of all…. Happy Thanksgiving to you & your hubby…….. Second, I love this card….. I can envision a cabin in the woods at Christmas time. I’d be inside by a fireplace and looking out that window…. Thank you for sharing your wonderful creativity…
Good afternoon Kittie a country Christmas. Love it
Kittie, that tree looks like you cut it down at a Christmas Tree farm.
So realistic…love this
