Christmas Tree Card

Today I’m sharing a layered Christmas tree card with a snowy scene outside the window and presents under the tree.  The tree was made using the Rubbernecker Stamps Evergreen Trees paired with the Window 4 Pane, Bicycle, Borders #1, Greenery #2, Stars, Splatter Background and stamped trees from the Moose set.  It is so much fun to create a scene on a small card front and packing in as many realistic elements as possible.  The Christmas tree looks so cozy against the window with the bike slightly behind and the floor covered with presents.

Come see how I made this layered Christmas tree card.

The Window Card Base and Outdoor Scene

  • Cut a piece of white cardstock large enough to fit behind the window.
  • Apply a blue sky with an ink blending tool and Tumbled Glass ink and stamp several trees using Shady Lane ink.
  • Heat dry the ink, stamp the scene using the Splatter Background and white pigment ink and emboss with white embossing powder.
  • Cut the window suing white cardstock and use it as a template to draw cut lines on the card base.
  • Cut the window opening on the card base using a craft knife.
  • Apply strips of mounting tape to the back of the window and attach it to the card base.
  • Place strips of mounting tape to the front of the outdoor scene layer and attach it over the opening on the inside of the card.  Note:  I wanted there to be as much separation between the window and the outdoor scene to draw the eye out.
  • Cut the border die using white cardstock to create a valance and attach it to the top of the card base.
  • Decorate the valance using branches and a multi loop bow.

The Layered Christmas Tree

I have to admit that my layered tree was an experiment.  Part of me thought it turned out so cute and another part wondered if it looked a little strange.  I finally decided it was very interesting with the multiple layers creating the appearance of branches and worth taking the time to decorate it for my card.

  • Cut several sections of the Evergreen Trees using green cardstock.
  • Use your fingers to bend the branches of the trees up before you begin layering.
  • Start by layering two of the largest trees together, offsetting the second over the first and attaching with glossy accents.
  • Continue layering and offsetting the smaller trees up the base of the tree and attaching the layers using glossy accents.
  • Create a wider tree base by attaching the bottom portion of the largest tree on both sides of the tree using glossy accents.  Note:  When I finished the tree layers the tree was fairly thin and I wanted it to be wider at the base.  By adding the bottom portion of two large trees on the back created another section of branches to widen the tree.
  • Decorate the tree with a ribbon garland, and then add pre made white and gold Nuvo Crystal Drops, a star and tiny red bow.

The Bicycle and Presents

  • Cut the bicycle using red and black cardstock.
  • Assemble the pieces using glossy accents and mounting tape.  Note:  I always fully assemble a piece like the bike although I know a portion of it may be covered up. When I first started thinking of the card design the bike was going to be the main focal image.  As I moved forward with the tree I knew the bicycle was going to be mostly hidden but would still be a major component of the scene.
  • Cut several pieces of designer paper to use for presents and create and attach ribbon and bows.

Assemble the Scene

  • Start by attaching the bicycle to the card base using mounting tape.
  • Apply glossy accents and mounting tape to the back of the tree and attach it to the window and card base.
  • Tuck presents under the tree and in front of the bicycle and attach them in place with pieces of mounting tape.

  1. How fun is that bike with the pretty presents under the tree, but what stands out is that beautiful tree and the wonderful way you decorated it!

  2. I had to pin this and make sure I am following you! Adorable card. I love the shade over the window and the bicycle peeking out from behind the tree.
