My project today is a whimsical Christmas card with a decorated fence and arbor and kitty cats playing in the snow. The main feature of the card is the Rubbernecker Stamps Gate and Arbor paired with the Cats, Deckle Hills, Cardinals and decorations made using the Greenery #1 set.  The background was made using a tree from the 3 Pine Trees and Splatter Background.

Come see how I made this whimsical Christmas card with cats and garden arbor.

The Snowy Tree Background

  • Apply the blue sky using Tumbled Glass ink and an ink blending tool.
  • Stamp the front row of trees using Shady Lane ink.
  • Create the second tree row by stamping off the image once on scrap paper before stamping on the scene base.  Repeat this step to complete the second row.
  • Heat dry the ink on the whole scene base with the heat gun to prepare for stamping the falling snow to avoid having embossing powder sticking to it.
  • Apply white pigment ink to the Splatter Background and stamp it on the scene.
  • Sprinkle white embossing powder over the scene, shake off excess and heat using the heat gun.  Note:  Sometimes it’s necessary to turn the card base face down and strike a few times on the back to remove excess powder.

The Gate and Arbor

  • Use white cardstock to cut the gate and arbor and black cardstock to cut the hinges.
  •
  • Attach the gate sections and hinges together using glossy accents.
  • Apply strips of mounting tape to the back of the fence and arbor and attach to the card base.
  • Use green cardstock. to cut the greenery branches.
  • Cut the branches apart with your scissors.
  • Attach the branches all the way around the top of the arbor and on the fence sections using glossy accents.
  • Tie a multi loop bow and two smaller single loop bows and attach to the arbor and fence using glue dots.  Note:  Check out my multi loop bow video tutorial to see how I make my bows.
  • Punch out 1/8″ circles using red cardstock and attach them to the greenery using glossy accents.
  • Apply red stickles to the red berries.

The Kitty Cats and Cardinals

  • Cut the cats using white cardstock and cardinals using red cardstock.
  • Use a black Copic marker to color the cat tails, ears and spots and the cardinal beaks.
  • Apply mounting tape to the back of the cats and cardinals and attach them to the scene.

This whimsical Christmas card was so much fun to make.  I love the arbor with the open gate inviting us in for a walk back through the snowy trees.  I added the black and white cats to the scene for another element of interest and love how the red cardinals seem to be taunting the cat on the fence.  Check out this Pinterest link for more whimsical Christmas card inspiration.  I hope you have enjoyed seeing my card and I sure do appreciate you stopping by today.
