A Cute DIY Greeting Card Storage Box

I wasn’t even sure if I was going to share this but I showed a friend and she lost her mind over this greeting card storage box I made from an old tin. Take a look:

Come see how I made this greeting card storage box from an old tin and some paint!

Before I get into details, I would love to know – do you want me to share ideas like these? I have been toying with the whole idea of “Anything But A Card” posts but I want to make sure you like the idea before I start bombarding you with non-card projects that shows different ways to use stamps and dies.  Please let me know in the comments section!

So, back to the project. If you are anything like me, you’ve got cards all. over. the place. I really needed yet another greeting card storage box and I unearthed this old tin from a Stampin’ Up! kit from years ago. The color totally did not go with my decor (because, you know, that’s our jam, right?) so I taped off the clear top, spray painted it white, knowing whatever I did would work with the white. And then one day when I was making this card or this card I looked at the tree and thought “A-HA!”. I stamped around the box with green pigment ink and embossed my little forest with clear embossing powder. Then I added the ribbon trim and a multi-loop bow and Voila! I love it!

Make a custom greeting card storage box by repurposing and old tin and stuff you have around your crafting space!

This would be so perfect as a gift for someone special – imagine, a beautiful greeting card storage box full of cards – is there anything better?

You too can make this pretty greeting card storage box using old containers, paint and some stamps!

So please be sure to let me know if you would like me to share more ideas like this with you! In the meantime, go ahead and see what sorts of things you have tucked away that you can convert into your own greeting card storage box – and be sure to save one for yourself!

  5. I love your card holder tin. A great idea. I have the same tin. ?. I have lots of tins I have been wanting to recycle. I had actually asked a few friends on SCS about making them into gift tins and about how to do it. I would love to see more projects on anything, but a card.

  9. Although I love your cards, I’d love to see more ideas like this! Did you have to prime it before spray painting it? I’ve never used spray paint.

    • Thank you, Susan! I didn’t prime the can before spraying with the white paint. I did spray on a very light layer of paint for the first coat and then completed with the second coat.

  11. Wow you did a fabulous job with stamping this, I was wondering what you used to stamp on tin, the embossing would probably help keep it on better too! I would love to see more post on how to use our stamps for more than just cards 🙂

  19. I love ideas especially around Christmas — however, I am most and foremost a card maker. I have made several of your cards and also inspiration to use some of the stamps in an unusual way… So I say, yes but mostly cards PLEASE!
