This year so many people are staying home for the holidays and so people are looking for ideas for Thanksgiving cards to make and send instead of traveling. I wanted to show something that was cute and fun and didn’t take forever to make. As detailed as this card is, I am sharing some tips and tricks to make this go a little faster AND be a perfect card for batch making in case you have to send a few.
To make this card I used the Turkey, Winter Tree, Tiny Leaves with Acorns #3, Picket Fence, Jack-o-Lanterns, Grass, Slimline Clouds, Sun Moon, Leaves and Greenery and Small Birds.
The Card Base, Grass, Fence and Clouds
- Cut the card base using light blue cardstock.
- Use white cardstock to cut two sections of fence and a slimline cloud layer.
- Cut the grass section using green cardstock.
- Attach the two fence section together using glossy accents and trim to fit across the card front.
- Use double stick tape to attach the fence to the grass layer and then attach them to the card base using strips of mounting tape.
- Trim the cloud layer to fit the card base and attach it using a strip of mounting tape.
The Tree and Turkey
- Cut the tree using Kraft cardstock and apply light brown ink using a mini applicator.
- Use orange, rust, mustard and green cardstock to cut the fall leaves. Note: I usually cut my fall leaves using white cardstock and apply color using green, rust and orange inks and a mini applicator. Using colored cardstock made making this colorful fall tree must faster.
- Attach the leaves to the tree using glossy accents and apply sparkle to the leaves using a shimmer pen.
- Cut the turkey parts using tan, brown, rust, orange, mustard and green cardstock.
- Assemble the turkey parts and attach them using glossy accents.
- Apply sparkle to the turkey feathers and hat using a shimmer pen. Note: I went a little overboard when adding the sparkle to the turkey but I couldn’t seem to help myself. LOL!
The Pumpkins, Foliage, Birds and Sun
- Cut the pumpkins using light orange cardstock and the stems using green cardstock.
- Apply orange ink using a mini applicator and attach the stems using glossy accents.
- Use mustard cardstock to cut the small birds and the sun.
- Apply shading to the birds using orange ink and a mini applicator and color the beaks using a black marker.
- Cut foliage sections using green cardstock.
Finish the Scene
- Trim the sun to fit in the clouds, tuck it in behind the cloud and attach with a piece of mounting tape.
- Apply sections of rolled up double stick tape to the back of the tree, tuck it in behind the fence and attach to the card base.
- Apply pieces of mounting tape to the back of the turkey and attach it to the grass and fence.
- Tuck the pumpkins in behind the grass and attach using pieces of mounting tape.
- Tuck foliage sprigs and branches in behind the grass and fence and attach using glossy accents.
- Apply small pieces of mounting tape to the birds and attach them in the sky area.
- Finish the scene by attaching a couple fallen leaves to the grass using glossy accents.
I think this turkey card is so fun. How about you? Do you have a lot of Thanksgiving cards to make to send to family and friends since we are in this unusual time?
