I want to share an idea I had for some charming DIY Christmas gift packages that turned out to be just perfect for men. I mean, they are just as lovely for women, too, but the overall theme of outdoors and the absence of any “fluff” made this so great for the guys in your life. And it would be a perfect winter birthday gift package as well. To decorate this mini gable box I used the Wildlife Set, Evergreen Trees, Deckle Hills, Small Birds and Splatter Background. I found a package of the white pre made mini gable boxes at a local craft store.
The Blue Sky and Snow
- Use a large blender brush and blue ink to apply color on one side of the folded gable box and flip it over and repeat on the other side.
- Heat dry the ink on both sides and then apply embossing magic to remove static cling.
- Apply white pigment ink to the background stamp and stamp on the box to create the falling snow. It will take a couple times to cover the whole side of the box.
- Sprinkle the box with white embossing powder and heat with your heat gun.
- Turn the box over and repeat the whole process.
- Cut two 11″ thin strips of white cardstock, place them on the cutting platform and cut again with the Deckle Hills die.
- Attach the two strips together end to end using a good amount of glossy accents and allow it to set.
- Apply double stick tape to the back of the snow strip and attach all the way around the box , allow the ends to overlap and trim off the excess.
The Evergreen Trees
- Cut four sets of the Evergreen Trees using green cardstock.
- Stamp them using the splatter background and white pigment ink. Note: The stamp can cover three or four trees at a time depending on the size of the tree.
- Apply white embossing powder to the trees and heat.
- Apply texture and dimension to the trees by running them through a straight crimper.
The Deer and Birds
- Use white cardstock to cut the deer and red cardstock to cut the birds.
- Apply a light shade of tan to the deer using a mini applicator.
- Apply a darker brown to the antlers and upper bodies of the deer using a mini applicator.
- Color the beaks of the birds with a black marker.
Finish the Package
- Apply pieces of mounting tape to the back of the trees and attach them all the way around the box. Note: Allow some of the trees to overlap each other.
- Tuck the larger deer in behind the trees on the front side of the box using a piece of mounting tape. Note: Since I had already attach the trees with mounting tape, I had to cut the deer in half and attach both sections on both sides of the tree.
- Attach the second deer to the front of a tree using a piece of mounting tape.
- Apply small pieces of mounting tape to the back of the birds and randomly attach them all the around the box.
- Use butchers string to attach the tree tag to the top of the box. Note: I thought the butchers string and large tree would be the perfect finishing touch for this masculine package.
Use this idea for other themes for some really cute DIY Christmas gift packages – you can even swap out this gable box for any other kind of package you have and just let your imagination create something all you!
