Using these funny Christmas card ideas with dogs could be a big timesaver!
I love seeing funny Christmas card ideas with dogs and many of them require a photo. OK – so how many of you have tried to get a good photo with a dog? And how long did it take? Right? What if you could reproduce your favorite furry friend with card stock? Then you get them to pose any way you want! That’s exactly what I did here – I reproduced one of my zany puppies in card stock and let me tell you, he doesn’t move an inch!
The Dog
I have received several requests for a video showing how to assemble the dog in this card since I posted it a couple weeks ago. Check out the video to see just how easy this guy was to assemble. All I did when I was finished with him was to add the hat, scarf and holly.
The Snowy Card Base and Snow Layers
- Use white cardstock to cut an A2 sized card base and light blue cardstock to cut a 5.50″ x 4.25″ scene layer.
- Dust the blue layer using the embossing magic bag.
- Stamp the snowy background using white pigment ink and heat emboss with white embossing powder.
- Use ATG adhesive to attach the blue snow layer to the white card base.
- Use white cardstock to cut two deckle snow layers.
- Attach the taller snow directly to the scene base using ATG adhesive.
- Use a strip of mounting tape to attach the front snow layer.
The Snow Covered Tree
- Cut one tree using woodgrain cardstock and a second tree top portion using white cardstock.
- Use brown ink and a wet baby wipe to color the tree.
- Cut sections of the white tree apart, layer and off set the pieces and attach them with glossy accents. Pro Tip: I wanted the snow to appear piled up on the main branch forks off the trunk so I left those sections when I trimmed the white branches.
- Tuck the tree in behind the back snow layer and attach to the card base with strips of mounting tape and tiny pop dots.
The Dog House
- Cut the dog house using wood grain cardstock and and the roof using white cardstock.
- Attach the roof and inside layer to the house using thin strips of mounting tape.
- Cut the sign back using red cardstock and the sign using white cardstock.
- Place the sign to the sign back using glossy accents and attach it to the house using glossy accents. Note: I wrote the dog name using an extra fine black marker.
- Decorate the house roof using several green holly leaves and berries.
The Tiny Christmas Tree
- Cut the top three sections of the tree using green cardstock.
- Use white pigment ink to stamp the snow and heat emboss with white embossing powder.
- Attach the three sections together using glossy accents and tiny pop dots.
- Use yellow cardstock to cut the star and attach it to the tree top using glossy accents.
Complete the Scene
- Tuck the dog house and dog in behind the front snow layer and attach in place using a large pieces of mounting tape.
- Apply a large piece of mounting tape to the back of the Christmas tree and attach it to the snow layer and dog house.
- Use red cardstock to cut birds (from the Reindeer and Birds set). attach the wings with glossy accents and color their beaks using a black marker.
- Attach the birds to the tree branches and snow layer using small pieces of mounting tape.
- Create a few touches of falling snow to tree and dog house using tiny white circles and glossy accents. Pro Tip: You may think I’m crazy but I save all of my negative circle pieces when I cut a die with scalloped borders. They come in handy for times like this!
- Finish by adding touches of red stickles to the holly berries on the house and dog scarf and yellow stickles to the star.
I love adding dogs and cats to my cards. Check out this fun Dog and Cats card to see another funny example.
I think this card stock version of our favorite furry friend is a great way to send holiday love. Funny Christmas card ideas with dogs never go out of style and when it’s customized to your own canine companions – or to those of your recipients! – you are sending a message full of love!

That is adorable! My two puppers give it woofs up. Thanks for the video–I really enjoyed seeing how easily the dog came together. I think I noticed that you switched out some of the elements from the ways the dogs are assembled on the packaging, which means those dies are even more adaptable and useful. BTW, you are evil–bringing those reindeer in by the backdoor and just letting us see the cuteness in the list of products. Are you going to or have you done a card with those?
Twila, thank you for asking. Here is a link to posts that I used both the reindeer as the main focal image and the birds used to embellish projects. https://kittiekraft.com/?s=reindeer+and+birds
Your card is so adorable! I love the texture and layers you add to each of your designs.
Thank you so much for sharing and inspiring! 🙂
Oh my goodness he is just too cute and I love the way you decorated his house and have the little bird visiting with him 🙂
Just found out about you today at the Stamp & Scrapbook Expo! Thank you for sharing your artwork and all the supplies you use! I can’t wait to see more of your work!
