Cute and Fun DIY Halloween Cards!

If DIY Halloween cards are your thing, you will love today’s project!

Even though Halloween isn’t typically a “card sending” holiday, I know people love seeing and making DIY Halloween cards. I just love the idea of little owls getting dressed up in costumes so I had to put this little feathered friend into a witch hat and get her ready for some trick or treating! I am not a huge fan of spooky cards so I think this card is a perfect way to put a little smile on someone’s face.

DIY Halloween cards made with lots of details thanks to dies from Rubbernecker

The Card Base and Grass

  • Use white cardstock to cut the A2 sized card base and a pale blue 5.50″ x 4.25″ layer.
  • Attach the blue layer to the card base using ATG adhesive.
  • Use green cardstock to cut two sections of grass.
  • Attach grass section to the card front using ATG adhesive.
  • Use a strips of mounting tape to attach the front grass section to the card front.

The Tree and Fence

  • Cut the tree and two fence sections using woodgrain cardstock.
  • Attach the two fence sections together using glossy accents.
  • Use brown ink and a wet baby wipe to color the tree and fence.

Baby Wipe Tree Inking

  • Tuck the fence section in behind the front grass section and attach using small pieces of mounting tape to the back of the pickets and double stick tape along the bottom.
  • Use green, orange and red cardstock to cut several leaves, place them face up on the molding pad and form them using the leaf tool.
  • Attach a sparse amount of leaves to the tree in a random manner.
  • Apply strips of mounting tape to the tree trunk and up the larges main branch and tiny pop dots to a few leaf backs and attach it to the card front.

  • Color the hat band, beak and feet using a bright orange marker.
  • Assemble the main pieces of the owl and witch hat and attach them together using glossy accents and small pieces of mounting tape.
  • Cut the jack-o-lanterns using bright orange and black cardstock.
  • Use glossy accents to attach the jack-o-lanterns features to the pumpkins.
  • Use a large piece of mounting tape to attach the owl to the card front.
  • Tuck the jack-o-lanterns behind the grass and under the owl wings and attach using pieces of mounting tape.
  • Cut a couple sections of the vines, tuck them in behind the pumpkins and attach using glossy accents.
  • Finish by a few falling leaves to the scene using glossy accents.

For more owl inspiration check out this Cute Halloween Card with Owls that I made last year.  It was made with three owls and three different Halloween costumes.  And for a little more owl inspiration take a look at my Cute Owl Christmas card. The owl was dressed in a Christmas very cute tree costume.

  1. Love the little witch/wizard owl and the pumpkins keeping an eye. Isn’t it amazing how with just a little turn of an eye or feature one way or the other you can give a face a completely different expression!
Thank you for sharing your great card and all the tips! 🙂

  2. I like to send them to my older grand kids and put a visa like card inside. They are too old to trick or treat so…..
    Love your card!
