How To Assemble Double Sided Die Cuts – VIDEO

Learn how to assemble double sided die cuts – Part three of four!

Today we are going to take those old truck pieces we colored the other day and learn how to assemble double sided die cuts to give you front and back realism on your projects. When I helped design these two new Old Truck Die sets – one for the front and one for the back – I mainly pictured traditional cards and wanted both “ends” of this classic element so we could, as artists, recreate whatever scene we envisioned. And then this card happened in my brain!  Check out my How to Assemble Rubbernecker Truck Die Cuts and How to Color Old Truck Die Cuts in case you missed the first two posts.

I made this card a second time to create a step by step guide for this video.  I’m sharing a few PRO TIPS from lessons I learned to help me create a better card the second time around.

  • Line up and center the frame die over the front of the card and secure it in place with masking tape to prevent a crooked cut.
  • Secure the card front and back to the work surface to hold it in place while attaching the frames over the open window.
  • Place the strips of mounting tape on the back outer edge of the frames so it doesn’t show when looking at the card from the side.
  • Create the front and back trucks to be as close to the exact same size as possible so they line up together perfectly.
  • Create double sided pumpkins so they appear finished from both sides of the open window.

Now some of you may see that the items aren’t lined up exactly back to back. While that was accidental, I chose NOT to reposition them because I realized that we don’t see things “perfectly” lined up with our eyes – there’s always a degree of “skewing” because the items have depth so the lines are always going to be a little off. Yay for realism!

  1. So adorable and I love all your tips and tricks. I also appreciate that it is not just me that gets things crooked! I saw a tip on You-tube about using the corner of your Misti to help align some things on your card front, it works!
