Today’s handmade beach scene card will make you want to drop everything and plop down in the sand!
If you’ve followed me for a while you know I love a handmade beach scene card; I’ve made MANY beach scene cards over the years! When I saw the Palm Tree Frame die that was released by Rubbernecker last month, I knew there was another one in my future. And here it is. I also used the new Rainbow and Clouds die set for the sun, added a different colored frame using their Nested Rectangle dies and then added some details with their Seagulls, Beach Chairs, Beach Bag, Deckle Hills, and Small Flowers #5 dies to bring the scene to life.
Let me take you through the making so you can reproduce this card or use my little tips and tricks on your own versions.
Beach Scene Card Base
- Use white cardstock to cut an A2 sized card base.
- Mask off the top sky area about 2/3 down of the white layer.
- Use a large blender brush to apply Beachside Color Fuse Ink from Set #9 to the bottom portion of the layer to create the ocean.
- Remove the masking tape.
- Create the cloudy sky using the Beachside ink and a large blender brush.
- Use a small pointed palette knife or your finger to apply touches of white embossing paste to the ocean to create seafoam. Pro Tip: Whether you use your finger or palette knife to dab on the embossing paste, you just need to dab gently so you don’t smash down and flatten the paste.
- Sprinkle the embossing paste with clear glitter and allow to dry well.
Sandy Beach
- Cut two 5.50″ strips of Kraft cardstock and cut the layers using the Deckle Hill die.
- Apply Mocha Color Fuse Ink from Set #3 to the sand layers using a large blender brush.
- Apply Shimmer Glitter Glue to the sand layers and sprinkle with clear glitter and allow to dry well.
- Attach one sand layer directly to the scene base using double stick tape. Set the second layer aside.
Palm Tree Frame
- Cut the Palm Tree Frame using white cardstock.
- Apply Grass ink to the palm fronds using a mini applicator.
- Use Pecan ink and a mini applicator to color the palm tree trunks.
- Apply strips of mounting tape to the back of the palm frame and attach it to the card base.
- Use red cardstock to cut an A2 sized layer.
- Place the red layer on the cutting platform, line up the second largest die from the Nested Rectangle set and cut the frame opening.
- Apply double stick to the back frame borders and attach it to the palm tree frame.
- Apply double stick tape to the back of the second sand layer and attach it to the red frame.
Fence, Seagulls, Sun and Sailboat
- Cut the sail boat and fence sections using white cardstock.
- Apply Pecan ink to the fence sections using a wet baby wipe. Pro Tip: Using a wet baby wipe to apply ink adds a little bit of a streaky look, perfect for when you want to color something that looks like natural wood.
- Tuck the fence sections in behind the sand layer and attach using glossy accents.
- Color the sail boat using brown and red markers and attach it to the scene base using small pieces of mounting tape.
- Cut the Seagulls using white cardstock, color them with a very pale gray marker and attach them to the scene base using small pieces of mounting tape.
- Use bright yellow cardstock to cut the sun from the Rainbow and Clouds set, apply yellow stickles and set aside to dry.
- Attach the sun in the sky area using a piece of mounting tape.
Beach Accessories
- Cut the Beach Chair using white cardstock and attach it to the front sand layer using glossy accents.
- Use yellow, red and black and white cardstock to cut the Beach Bag sections and yellow cardstock to cut the Small Flower #5.
- Color the suntan lotion bottle using aqua and black markers.
- Assemble and attach the beach hat and sun glasses sections together using glossy accents.
- Attach the small flower to the hat using glossy accents.
- Attach the beach accessories to the sand using pieces of mounting tape.
I love that I can add all these details with die cuts and not have to get all fussy with them! All that easy-to-add texture also keeps the eye moving, making this card extra inviting. If you want to make this one, here’s what you will want from Rubbernecker:

Something I love about this handmade beach scene card is that you really can use it for so many occasions. I love making specific occasion cards but there is a LOT to be said about having a gorgeous card like this one ready to pull out, add a sentiment to and send off. And imagine how excited they will be to take this fun beauty out of the envelope!
I love the scene you created! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much, Michele!
