You can use this handmade card with a rainbow for just about any occasion!
When I was playing around with this precious new Rainbow and Clouds die set from Rubbernecker, I was thinking how this element could be used on a card for just about any occasion. A handmade card with a rainbow can mean anything from encouragement to sending a blessing to an expression of support or joy and even sympathy. I decided to add a little nature scene using Rubbernecker’s Evergreen Forest, Slimline Grass, Grass #2, and Tiny Flower Buds and then added one little flying friend with their Small Birds die. The layers were made using their Retired Square Combo OPC. Â
Let me share my steps for the making and then you can adapt this design to your vision.
Square Card Base
- Use white cardstock to cut a 5.00″ x 5.00″ card base and Retired Square Combo OPC.Â
- Turn the OPC square sections face down and attach them together using strips of double stick tape.
- Cut a 4.75″ square and a 3.50″ square using light blue cardstock.
- Apply ATG adhesive to the 4.75″ layer and attach it to the card base.
- Apply strips of mounting tape to the back of the OPC square sections and attach them to the card base.
- Apply ATG adhesive to the back of the blue scene base and attach it to the OPC square sections.
The Evergreen Forest Scene
- Use green cardstock to cut the Evergreen Forest and Slimline Grass sections.
- Apply a strip of mounting tape to the back of the grass layer and attach it to the blue scene layer.
- Apply tiny pop dots to the top back of each tree and double stick tape to the back bottom of the trees.
- Tuck the trees in behind the grass layer and attach to the scene base. Â
- Cut a section of the Grass #2 set using green cardstock and attach the pieces behind the grass layer using glossy accents.
- Use pink, purple and yellow cardstock to cut the Tiny Flower Buds.
- Place the flower buds face up on the molding pad and push down in the centers using a small tipped stylus.
- Attach the flower buds to the grass sections using glossy accents.
- Cut a Small Bird using aqua cardstock and attach it to the scene base using a small piece of mounting tape.
Rainbow and Clouds
- Cut the Rainbow and clouds using yellow, pink, purple, aqua and white cardstock. Pro Tip: I kept all the rainbow sections together to use on future projects.
- Turn the rainbow sections face down, group them together and attach them together using double stick tape. Pro Tip: I placed all four rainbow sections together on my Brutus Monroe Stick and Stamp Mat to hold them perfectly together while I attach them with the tape.Â
- Remove the double stick tape backing from the back of the rainbow and attach it to the scene base,
- Finish by attaching two of the clouds on both sides of the rainbow using small pieces of mounting tape.
I love this little scene so much I might just have to experiment with the other elements in that new Rainbow and Clouds die – I love that almost all weather conditions are possible! Here are the things from Rubbernecker I used so you can find them easily:

I really think any handmade card with a rainbow can send whatever message you either add onto the front with a sentiment or write inside. There’s something both magical and reassuring about the rainbow motif and on this card, it gets to star without taking over. How would you use a rainbow card?

Such a happy card! Thanks for the inspiration Kittie.
So fresh and clean- I LOVE IT! 🙂
