Good Sunday morning. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who made purchases from my card sale yesterday. I sold out. Woo Hoo!
My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge. The inspiration site was AIGA Design Archives and I was inspired by a book cover of John Steinbeck’s Travels With Charley: In Search of America. I was really more inspired by the story rather than the book cover. I drive 65 miles round trip every day for work and have listened to books on CDs to occupy the time for years. One of my favorite's is John Steinbeck's Travels with Charley: In Search of America. I have listened to it a couple times. Mr. Steinbeck traveled all across the United States in a truck with a customized camper built into the bed of the truck. He and his standard Poodle, Charley (I don't have a Poodle die…LOL) camped along roadsides, streams and in fields on the back roads of our country. Although the whole book was about all the interesting people he met along the way it was also filled with wonderful fun stories of Charley. He was a quite the special dog.
I cut the Tree Die using kraft cardstock and applied brown ink with my Color Box Stylus and Foam Tip. I had lots of those little green cutouts from the Fancy Cut Border from a couple weeks ago and thought they were perfect for the leaves on my tree. I cut and crimped the Fir Trees and cut the birds from the Birch Trees set. I cut the dog and applied color with a mini foam applicator. Check out my Coloring Die Cut Animals tutorial if you would like to see step by steps photos of how I colored my dog.
I sponged some green on the ground area of the card base and stamped in some texture using the mini fern image from my Kittie Kits Outdoor Master. I cut the frame using my Spellbinders Matting Basics A and magnetic platform. I love that thing. I attached the frame to the card base using mounting tape.
I attached the tree to the base with thin strips of mounting tape. I attached sections of Tall Grass and a few limb sections from an extra tree to the ground area with glossy accents. I attached the fir trees with mounting tape and the birds with glossy accents. The dog was attached with mounting tape. This is such a perfect guy card.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you are having a great Sunday.

Charlie is a show stopper – just love this card, Kittie.
What a stunning card Kittie. Love the colouring of the dog die.
Love Val in Spain x
Sounds like an interesting book that inspired your creation today, love the stamped background, terrific layering, like how the dog is on the outside of the frame!
Perfect guy card. Love the dog w/collar and those cute little birdies too, picture perfect.
Sounds like a fun book Kittie. Your card is fabulous.
I would never have thought to mix these two types of trees. Clever die use!
65 miles round trip! That’s a trek!
A lovely scene as I like !
Absolutely amazing card! I LOVE the scene and your colors, the dog is so precious. When I lived in NYC sixty-five miles was not much but, as I get older it seems longer and longer, LOL. I know that you are the kind of person that would make very good use of that time.
By the time I got to your post yesterday everything I wanted was GONE, I do know the story about the early bird and how true it is. TFS.
Good Afternoon, Kittie, what a wonderful card to set the stage for Steinbeck’s book. I think I need to read this one. Your card inspired that too. Love your active dog, and scene. lots of texture with trees and birds too. ……have a good week-end.
Congratulations with the sale of your cards Kittie! It’s just wonderful!!!
I can’t get over how realistic this dog looks, it’s absolutely amazing! Such an adorable scene, I just love this one!
Fantastic card, Kittie! My husband and adult son would love it. I wish one of the dogs in this set were a German Shepherd, our dog is mostly that breed. Thank you for sharing this creatively inspiring card. I am now on the lookout for a German Shepherd die.
