Birch Trees and Deer Scene

Good Saturday morning.  Cards for men are a little challenging for lots of us but I find you can’t go wrong with a few deer and in a forest setting.  My project today is a masculine nature scene made using the Taylored Expressions Birch Tree Cutting Plate paired with the Impression Obsession Deer Trio, Grass Border, Leafy Branch, Small Bird Set and Fir Tree stamp .

The birch trees die creates the perfect background for a nature scene. I stamped a few fir trees on the card base to add depth and interest behind the birch. I cut the birch out of white cardstock and added touches of color and definition using pumice stone  and vintage photo ink and a mini applicator. I created a double matted frame and attached it to the trees die using mounting tape. I added another layer of mounting tape to the back of the trees and frame and attached it to the card base. I wanted there to be layers of dimension between the frame as well as between the trees and the base.

I cut a grass border and attached to the frame and then covered it with a hand cut deckle ground base.  I cut the deer, sponged color on  them with vintage photo ink and a mini applicator. I inserted the deer into the scene attaching with double layers of mounting tape.  I wanted them to appear as if they are standing out in front of the trees and adding another level of dimension. I tucked a few pieces of the leafy branch around in the scene to make it look more like a forest and finished by adding a few red birds and tiny red flowers.

  1. Good morning, Kittie, I always love these deer scenes even if it is going into summer. Guess because I love the Mt;s. an not a summer enthusiast. Beautiful. I love the double frame to set it off. …have a good week-end

  2. Kittie, this is so pretty…. And bless your heart, you found more dies (the deer trio) that I am going to get to buy! lol…. This is such a pretty card and I can see having white on some of the ‘green’ to make it look like snow! Another amazing card, my friend… thank you for sharing your sensational creativity…

  4. This is just over-the-top Kittie. I think I connect so much with your water colored cards because of all the wildlife. I usually have deer in my yard at least 3 times a week (usually eating my roses . . . LOL).

  5. Such a gorgeous card. You’re touches of color here and there on the trees and the shading of the animals really make the scene even more dimensional and lifelike. I reviewed all the previous cards you have shown…each just as wonderful. I keep resisting all these beautiful dies but, of course, the more I see, the more I want! Thanks for sharing your immense talents.
