Making Yo Yo Yellow Look Good

I’m not sure it is really possible to make yo yo yellow look good but that was our challenge today on Splitcoaststampers.  Color challenges are one of my favorites but sometime we get thrown a curve ball that makes the challenge quite a bit more interesting.  By interesting…I really mean difficult. Lots of times I am thrilled with the combination of colors and happy to have found how well they work together. Today I felt a little dread as yo yo yellow is one of my least favorite colors. Combine yo yo with two different colors of gray…basic gray and going gray and you have a real lulu.  Tonight when I got home I started sifting through my sets trying to figure out what in the world I would do and came across my never been inked kitty cat and mouse washing machine image by Rubbernecker. Gray and gray work great when shading a white washing machine for a card.  Well….it was a start. I stamped the machine and animals, painted and cut out to pop up in the scene. I finally came up with bright yo yo flowered wallpaper for the laundry room wall and big bright yo yo dots on the ironing board cover. I stamped out the laundry soap and softener and sketched a little shelf around them, painted and cut them out. I stamped the iron, shirts and sentiment, painted, cut and started trying to figure out how to add them to the scene.  I worked a paper clip with a pair of pliers to create the little hanger to hang off the laundry shelf.  I am forever hanging things on door frames, shelves, etc when ironing. I layed the shirt on the ironing board and curled it over the front and back of the board to make it look like it is ready for ironing.  The last little detail was to create a string for the electrical cord for the iron.  Everything is popped up with mounting tape.  As much as I don’t really love this combination of colors, I really do love the fun little scene created in this laundry room.  If this were my house…my little Siamese kitten, Chloe would be the one on top of the machine shutting the door on my wonderful big cat, Cassie. Forget the mouse….they don’t even try to walk around my wild house.

  2. Kittie, this is adorable — and I think that is better than “making ‘something’ look good”! Adorable is WAY better. Great job as always!

  3. What a great scene! This really made me chuckle. I love how you make things work, like *I don’t have a shelf for these cute laundry products, so I’ll draw one*! Soooo clever, soooo talented!
