Florida Garden Gate and Under the Grand Cyprus
I did two projects for our first Rubbernecker Challenge. The challenge is to use turquoise, brown and green in a project and any other neutral colors. I decided to try my hand at a Florida scenes using Rubbernecker -Gone Fishin cattails and do one with Copic markers and one with watercolors.
My first card is a scene looking out a garden gate to a grouping of cattails growing in a body of water and trees on the hill in the background. I stamped my images with brown Stazon and watercolored with reinkers. I added depth of color by using Faber-Castell artist pens and Copic markers. I sponged the water and grassy areas with daubers, sketched out the trees, painted and then filled in the ground and leaf texture with a fern stamp. I used a stardust Gelly Roll pen to add sparkle to the water but it doesn’t really show in the photo. I used small amounts of Liquid Applique, tapped it with my fingers and heated to add texture to the cattails and to the ground area around the cattails. I colored the Liquid Applique with Copic markers after I heated it. I sponged in the sky area with turquoise. I used a corner punch with the guide removed to create the gate to embellish the scene. I used a baggy full of dried rice to create a non descript background on both the brown and turquoise layers. I wanted the garden gate open a little and accomplished that by balling up glue dots to hold it up just a little from the scene.

My second card is a scene overlooking a Florida lake and the cattails are growing under the shade of a Grand Cyprus tree. I stamped the images with brown Stazon and sketched out the tree limbs with a brown artist pen. I colored all the images with Copic Markers and helped fill in some deeper color with a dark olive artist pen. I used a sponge dauber to apply Distress ink for the ground area, masked off the water line with Post-It! notes and sponged with turquoise. I sponged in the sky area with the same turquoise.
