Which One?

The Limited Supply Challenge on SCS today is to use the same three or four stamps, white cardstock, a few colors of ink and one sheet of designer paper and to create two or more cards with totally different looks.  The purpose of this challenge is to remind us that we don’t have to always have lots of different images, colors etc to change things up.  We can push the envelope creatively and come up with different projects using a few basic items.

I chose to work with my brand new Rubbernecker Beach Party Collection. I love to work with adirondack chairs in scenes and this collections has a great one along with a great umbrella and many, many other wonderful pieces. I picked out the chair, umbrella and the small sand image for my projects. You all need to look at the wonderful sand images in this collection.  I am in love.  I used it for sand on one card and grassy texture for the other. I thought it would be fun to show how the same two images could be used at the beach or in the garden in your own back yard.

I stamped the umbrella twice to use for both projects on designer paper with Brilliance Black and embossed with clear embossing powder and I cut it out. I stamped the chair with stazon and painted with Adirondack Latte reinker and added a little darker shading with a marker and cut it out as well. I created a little hill side scene on a piece of plain white cardstock, sketching trees and a fence and sponging in the grass area. I filled in some texture with the sand dune image.  I filled in the leaf area of the tree with a small sponge dauber and used a small tipped stump to add texture for leaves.  I used  Staedtler olive and red markers to create the little grassy sprigs and flowers around the fence and trees. I attached the chair to the scene and popped up the top portion of it with mounting tape for dimension. I hand cut a little flower pot out of the designer paper and hand sketched a few flowers and leaves for a decorative pot to sit by the chair. I popped up the umbrella over the chair with mounting tape in the middle and glue dots along the sides. I used olive cardstock to create the grassy border to go right in front of the card and to finish it off I added red and white grosgrain striped ribbon.  I used the sand dune image to apply background texture on both the red and olive layers.

I started my project by cutting a piece pf white cardstock and sponging on Adirondack aqua for the sky and ocean area. I sponged Adirondack latte on another piece of white cardstock and cut with deckle scissors to create three different sand levels for a dimensional scene. I used the sand dune image to create texture on all of the sand layers. I stamped the chair, painted and cut out. I created a little beach bag and towel with the designer paper and to carry that theme for the whole little beach scene. I used Staedtler markers to create the little sea oats and sprigs on the sand layers.  I attached all the layers, chair and umbrella with adhesive and mounting tape to finish the card. I love the little Surf’s Up sentiment and wanted to add it.  There is nothing more dull than sitting on the beach and not having great waves rolling in.

  1. Both cards are fabulous! I love how you used the same supplies and came out with completly different cards. Thank you for reminding us we don’t need tons of supplies to make several different style cards. Keep up the great work!
