The Limited Supply Challenge on SCS was to create designer paper by hand. We could use stamps, markers, or just about anything we wanted. I wanted to do a fun card using one of my new Whipper Snapper Desgins- Anna Wight images, Bo-Vina but wanted my designer paper background to be more of the main focus so I decided to create just a small scene image. How long has it been since you used your plaid makers. They have been retired from Stampin’ Up! for quite a while. I thought it would be fun to use them to create a rustic brown and red plaid to go with my cute cow. How now brown cow!!!!!
I stamped the image on watercolor paper with Brilliance black and heat set. I watercolored the image with Distress Vintage Photo and cut out and set aside. I created just a little green scene image to place behind the cow with Distress Peeled Paint and my mini fern image as well as cut a little strip to put cut grass in front of her feet. I distressed a small red layering image for behind the cow by sponging on Distress Fired Brick and then roughing up the edges with my paper tool. I used a sponge to apply Vintage Photo to a piece of Naturals Vanilla cardstock for a wood looking background layer behind the main image. I added eyelets to the corners for additional dimension. I sponged the Vintage Photo lightly on red and white gingham to tone down the white and to match the creamy vanilla of the designer paper. I took a pair of pliers and smashed a gold brad to appear like a bell around the cows neck. This was a fun project.
I have had several people ask what kind of watercolor paper I use. You need to know that if you are trying to watercolor with cheap paper you will not get great results. I love to use Stampin’ Up!’s watercolor paper for small projects. It is wonderful quality paper and if you make a boo boo you can turn it over and start again. For larger projects I use Arches Cold Pressed Grain Fin 140 lbs and purchase it in pads of 10" x 14" so I can cut to size.

oh this is just adorable. I love the little bell! I was thinking a ring through the nose! LOL!
So cute Kittie. I don’t even know what a plaid maker is, so it must be more than a couple of years old. Whatever it is, it sure did do a fine job! Your designer paper is all that and more!
LOVE it, Kittie!! =)
Awesome plaid bg, love the cow, and that strip for wood with the eyelets is cool, great touch!
Great plaid background! Love that cow, so adorable! Great coloring as usual and the added bell is very clever!
