The Inspiration Challenge today on SCS is really fun. We were given a picture of a party in a box themed on a Safari Party Adventure.
I was instantly inspired to use the darling images from the Baby Collection found on Rubbernecker Stamp Company. All three of the babies are referred to in the collection as stuffed-Stuffed Elephant, Stuffed Lion and Stuffed Giraffe. But don’t you think they make perfect animals for a jungle scene as well? I sure do. They are so darn cute.
I used several foliage stamps from KK Originals Flowers Collection on Rubbernecker to create a jungle scene around the animals. I did lots of masking and cutting of extra foliage to pop up over the scene. I have had several people tell me they are intimidated by trying masking and layering so I thought I would add a few steps below to show how easy it really is to accomplish a dimensional scene that makes your images come to life.
I stamped the lion image with Brilliance black and masked so I could stamp the elephant and giraffe on either side of him. You always want to create your mask with a thin paper like post-it or regular printer paper. Cardstock is too think and will not allow your images to stamp cleanly around the mask. Once you cut your masks just keep them with your stamps so you can use them over and over again. I use Tombo Mono Removable Adhesive on the back of my masks to hold them firmly in place.
Once I had all three of the animals stamped I placed their individual masks over each of them and started stamping foliage all around them. Some we full inked images and some had to be painted. I watercolored all three of the animals with reinker and a brush as well a painting the open foliage.
I stamped many individual leaf images to cut out and pop up over and behind the animals. I also stamped an extra lion mane and head and elephant head and trunk to pop up in the scene The final foliage layer was stamped on a solid piece of cardstock the full length of the scene, painted and cut out along the top to define the foliage. This allowed all the base of all the foliage pieces to be covered and to add more dimension.
One thing that I thought would add to the scene was to clear emboss lots of the foliage to make it shiny like it would be out in the wild. I squished each individual leaf directly into the Versa pad and then covered with clear embossing powder and heated. I used a Versa marker to do a few of the leaves that were stamped directly on the main image layer and embossed them as well. I sponged the sky area around all the base foliage with Adirondack Butterscotch to match the lion and giraffe and to make the scene pop.
I completed my card by adding foliage images as a background for both the olive and mustard cardstock. I added Papertrey twill to the base of the card for my final finishing touch. I am in love with this scene….even if I do have to say so myself.
