Cape Hatteras Bound

Kittie Kraft Card Sales

I've listed a few of my cards for sale on Ebay if you are interested in checking them out. See the link on the right under eBay My World.  Thanks for taking a look.

The Ways to Use It challenge on SCS Thursday was to use anything to do with packing, such as packing tape, shipping tags, bubble wrap or to go the other direction and create a project having to do with packing for a trip or vacation.  This was a fitting challenge for me as we are leaving in three weeks for our annual family reunion beach vacation in Cape Hatteras, NC. For my project I packed up my little Loads of Love truck with our suit cases and beach umbrella and headed toward the Outer Banks.

I stamped the truck and lighthouse on scrap watercolor paper, painted with a watercolor brush and  Tempting Turquoise reinker and cut out.  I created two little suit cases by embossing kraft paper with a cuttlebug folder, ran distress vintage photo ink over it and cutting to the appropriate size.  I added little handles on the cases and used a gold pen to add the tiny hardware to hold the handles on.I adhered the cases to the truck bed with glue dots. I used striped designer paper and a scalloped Nestabilities die to create the umbrella. I accordion folded in between the scallops to form the umbrella and attached a little rolled up piece of white paper for the stand. I tied the umbrella on top the truck with linen thread. I stamped the truck a second time on my first sand dune layer to pop the cut out truck over but leaves the wheels available. I sponged Latte  ink over both dune layers to create the sand and used Itty Bitty BG and Rubbernecker Beach Party Sand Dune image to add texture to the sand. I used a marker to add sea oats and grass sprigs to the sand. I cut a wavey border on a mask and attached to the white background layer and sponged with turquoise to create the rolling ocean. The water at Cape Hatteras is very rough as it is sixty miles out into the gulf stream.  The Outer Banks area is known as the grave yard of the Atlantic as there have been so many ship wrecks there. Hatteras light is the tallest lighthouse in America. OK…back to the scene.  I sponged the sky in using Soft Sky and my cloud template. I used liquid applique to add some white caps and sea foam to the water and finished the scene by adding sea gulls from the Rubbernecker collection. I popped the truck image up over the stamped image on the dune and assembled the rest of the card. It has been a long time since I used my "little truck" but I got tickled as I was loading the photo into my file that this is the 39th card made with it. I have used this image more than any other one image other than, of course, my beloved mini fern stamp.

  1. YOU MAKE YOUR STAMPS DO DOUBLE DUTY WHICH IS GREAT! ONE MINUTE THE GRASS IS ON A BEACH AND THE NEXT CARD IT IS IN A GARDEN. LOVE THE WAY YOU WORK YOUR STAMPS!

  2. Kittie, I love this card — and not just because my family has been going to the OUter Banks since I was a child — this year we hope to have all six siblings together — not all 16 nieces and nephews are available at the same time — while I could CASE this and make six myself, what if I commissioned six of them? I could frame them for everyone! Email me please… pretty please… Love, Mary Gillmarten!

  3. Kittie, did I mention one brother is coming from France with his 3 French teenagers, one brother is coming from Brussels with his 2 Honduran girls (and their respective mothers by the way), one brother is coming up from Florida with definitely his son, his wife and daughter are both quite ill so we’re keeping our fingers crossed, my sister and I will be going down from the DC area — her oldest is at the Naval Academy and we aren’t yet sure of her schedule, and my baby sister will be coming from Blacksburg, but her two oldest boys have football camps and can’t make it. I’ll be your best friend forever! 🙂 Mary G.

  4. Oh my word Kittie, I would never have thought to add suitcases to the back of the truck. Well, now I’ll have something else to put in the truckbed. Have fun on your family vacation.
