Time Goes By So Fast

My nephew, Sam is graduating from high school this coming week. It only seems like yesterday that he was just a baby and now he is on his way to college.  Sam is a remarkable young man.  He is a gifted student, an athlete and a musician. There is so much talent wrapped up in this kid.  Sam's father died just about a year ago and we have all been amazed that he has made his highest grade point average ever this past year, worked at a youth camp after school every day and plays local country sports. He takes guitar lessons and has written many songs, and a few really special ones about his father.  Needless to say I am proud of Sam and love him very much.  I made this fun card for him.  I thought it was appropriate to use a wise owl since Sam is such a smarty!

I was inspired to make an owl with a mortar board by a card Paula Bloommade for the DD/DDA monthly challenge. I stamped the owl with black craft ink and embossed with clear embossing powder.  I painted him with a blender pen using Adirondack Latte and Distress Vintage Photo.  I masked the owl and sponged on Distress Peeled Paint and then stamped the mini fern around for the appearance of leaves.  I hand sketched and colored the little mortar board with a black marker and created the little tassel with SU gold cord. I attached the cord to the board and popped it up on the owl's head with rolled up glue dots. The rest is pretty self explanatory.  This was made with lots of love fand admiration for Sam. By the way….Sam has the best mother any kid could have…I know because she is the best sister a girl could have.

  2. As a retired Teacher I have seen lots of Grad. cards and I have to say this is one of the best. I love the gold. How is the crimped gold done?
