Let it Snow

There is not much chance of holiday snow where I live in Florida but I so enjoy creating snowy holiday projects. I have fond childhood memories of the many white Christmases we had growing up in West Virginia. The Featured Stamper Challenge on SCS Sunday featured Elizabeth Neumann aka ebethneu and her gallery is a treasure trove of wonderfully inspiring projects. I chose this project for my inspiration piece. I loved the little scalloped card front and back with the accordion center. It could be made into a darling little photo album, too. The ideas for inside the book are endless but Elizabeth created a darling gardening scene so I wanted to do a scene as well…but I'm sure that is no surprise.

KC Let it Snow with Mittens Closed I created  the card cover with the largest oblong scalloped Nestabilities die. Elizabeth's card front was was simple and the perfect little preview for what was inside.  I waned to create the same type of preview. I thought the darling little mittens hung from the pine sprigs and the "Let it Snow" sentiment would invite you inside. I stamped the sentiment on the front image layer and stamped the pine sprigs on both the upper and lower corners. I used Ranger Distress inks and they stay wet long enough to emboss and to create a crisp image on the perfect white background.  I stamped the mittens on scrap watercolor paper, painted with reinkers and cut out. I tied the simple little satin bow to hang the mittens from and attached to the card front. The mittens are held in place with dimensionals. I used a white Sharpie oil based marker to create the dots on the scallops.

I took the measurement of my front white layer and reduced the width by 1/4" and then multiplied that measurement by four. I then scored it three times to create four exact sized panels to work with and that will fold perfectly when attached to the cover. I avoided folding the cardstock until after I created the scene.  I stamped the Maurice snowman, painted and masked him and stamped the trees all around him. I sponged in the sky with blue and heated to dry well and then stamped and embossed the falling snow with white craft and white embossing powder. I created the snowy ground with Liquid Applique', dabbed it with my finger to spread it around and heated. I sponged white craft ink on the LA and then embossed with white embossing powder to create perfect white snow. I attached the ribbon to the inside of the covers and then attached the scene panel to the covers making sure they were lined up perfectly for closing. This was lots of fun.  The outside cover measures 3" x 4" and the entire open project measures 10 inches wide. I think it is so darling.
