I have three adorable animal images from the Rubbernecker Baby Collection - Stuffed Elephant, Stuffed Giraffe and Stuffed Lion that I thought would be perfect to reflect the Jungle Book theme. I really don’t have any real jungle foliage images but I made my own using different leaves from the Rubbernecker KK Originals Flowers #2 Collection.
I stamped the three animal images on watercolor paper, colored, cut out and set aside. I stamped all the leaves several times with Old Olive craft ink on Kiwi Kiss cardstock and embossed with clear embossing powder. I loved the shiny look for the jungle foliage. I didn’t like it that the bare cardstock left open by the stamps wasn’t shiny as well so I sponged the Versa pad directly over them all and embossed again with clear embossing powder. I really love that the olive color stood out darker than the lighter kiwi green paper and created the look of texture in the leaves. I cut out all the individual leaves and set them aside. I used a piece of Close to Cocoa cardstock to create a little tree trunk, sponged on Vintage Photo ink and cut it out. I used deckle scissors and Old Olive cardstock to create the tree top and then sponged with Versa and embossed with clear embossing powder. I ran the tree top through the crimper for a little texture.
I created the blue sky using an ink blending tool and a handmade cloud template on glossy white paper and attached the cloud layer to the main card base. I started assembling the card from the top down. I attached the tree trunk and then popped up the tree top with mounting tape. I wanted the giraffe to be the highest animal for obvious reason so I attached him close to the tree and started surrounding him with the foliage leaves. I only used adhesive on the bottom of the leaves so I could bend them around to pop out of the scene a little. I wanted the animals to look like they were coming out of the leaves. I continued creating the scene by adding the elephant, more leaves and then the lion. I didn’t want the bare leaf bottoms to be sticking out so I created the border with an embossed and crimped piece of Olive cardstock. I added the ribbon and mounted the piece on to the card base with mounting tape. I love how this turned out. What a fun challenge.
