Weekend Stamping Fun

I had a great weekend of relaxing, celebration and stamping.  Our 13th wedding anniversary is February 1st so we celebrated Saturday night  and went out to eat. We had a wonderful evening. I also got some great stamping time in and was able to play in several SCS challenges.

I found a wonderful blog site called Ann’s Creative Moments by Ann Fitzgerald that has some wonderful tutorials on different ways to use the Stampin’ Up!  bird punch. If you have a bird punch and love using it then you must go check out Ann’s blogs. She has several different examples using the punch.

I created my bird using one of Ann’s instructions and framed it with pine foliage and a fluffy/fuzzy fabric cording that someone gave me a long time ago. I wondered what in the world I would ever do with it and today’s challenge to create warm and fuzzy  project seemed the perfect opportunity to put it to use. If you would like to know how I made my bow check out my multi loop bow tutorial.

Saturdays Inspiration Challenge provided Rooms By Zoya for our inspiration site. Wow! I almost went into overload with all the gorgeous things to see on the site and into total shock by the prices. I loved the rooms with the Safari theme and  I especially loved the scene on this full bed.

I tried to recreate the background scene on the headboard of the bed by watercoloring with reinkers. My background is no where as soft and whimsical as the inspiration piece but I do think it looks fun behind the giraffe images.

I wet my piece of watercolor paper and then painted on the green area, sky and water. I used a pencil to sketch out my tree lines in the background and then painted over them with brown ink. I added the leaves with a sort of dotting motion with the brush and then softened by dabbing a plain wet brush over them. I used the same dotting technique to create greenery around the water’s edge and base of the trees. I used a scruffy brush to stipple in more texture with the darker green. The giraffes were stamped on watercolor paper,  painted with reinkers and cut out to pop up in front of the scene. I cut just the edges of the frame with the deckle scissors. I attached the scene to the base of the card and attached the frame over it with mounting tape. I punched out the foliage, sketched on little lines with a marker and then ran it through my crimper to add some texture. The giraffes were popped up in the scene and the foliage was layered in front of them and around the frame for embellishment.

Here are a couple of fast cards I made using the retired Stampin’ Up! set Watercolor Minis.  It’s always nice to have a few simple cards on hand for notes and thank you cards.

My last project is a sweet baby card using Baby Bear image from Rubbernecker.  I stamped the image on watercolor paper, painted and cut out to pop up on my polka dot embossed layers. I thought the soft pink satin and blue gingham were perfect with this fun baby image. Check out my multi loop bow tutorial if you would like to know how I made my bow.
