My project today is a clean and simple watercolor scene using the Autumn Tree image.  I liked how this turned out so much that I decided it didn’t need anything more than a simple frame so the tree could be the main focal point.

I stamped the image on watercolor paper with vintage photo distress ink and heat set it.  Using a small waterbrush I painted the tree and leaves with reinkers. I heat set the image and then used a tiny dry brush to apply a little white watercolor paint to the right side of the tree trunk to create the appearance of light. I lightly applied shabby shutters to the ground area using my color box stylus and foam tip. I applied brown ground lines using a small dauber. I applied the green background above the ground area using a dry brush in a stipple motion gathering ink by swiping directly across the ink pad.

I heat set the scene to make sure it was good and dry and then used my ink blending tool to sponge yellow around the tree to add a highlight.  I really love how this turned out.  I haven’t done much water coloring for a while and it felt good to get my fingers inky.

  1. Beautiful, looks just as if you have painted it! You would not think it started life as a simple (but lovely) stamp.
