Susan’s Black-Eyed Susan and Blog Candy

Good Saturday morning.  How many times have you ordered something twice by mistake?  I really don’t do it very often but when I do I slap myself on the forehead with a big DUH!  My mistake is going to make one of you very happy.  I mistakenly ordered two Spellbinders Grand Rectangles sets this past week and instead of sending one back I am offering it as blog candy as a thank you for all of the wonderful support you show me week after week.

All you have to do to qualify to win is leave a comment on this post telling me which of Susan Tierney Cockburn ’s flower dies are your favorite. You will have until 5:00 PM EST on Friday, July 26th to leave your comment.

Speaking of Susan Tierney Cockburn’s flower dies, I have another flower to share with you today made using the Black-Eyed Susan die. I paired it with soft sky blue paper and a piece of the Sun Kiss Collection designer paper. I wanted the flower to be the main focal point and added other elements for added dimension and interest.

KC Sizzix Black Eyed Susan 1 right

I started by cut and assembling the flower following Susan’s wonderful video tutorial.  I used Susan’s Garden Pan Pastel to coloring the flower petals and leaves

KC Sizzix Black Eyed Susan 1 center

I cut the Poppystamps Grand Madison Window and Picket Fence in blue and attached to the card base using mounting tape.  I cut the Fresh Cut Grass and added to the fence.  I cut the Memory Box Butterfly Delights, colored them lightly with Pan Pastel and added markings using my vintage photo distress marker. I attached the flower and leaves using glossy accents and added the butterflies for the perfect finishing touch. KC Sizzix Black Eyed Susan 1 close

Here is a closer view of the flower. I think it looks so real.  And it is so easy to make.

Thank you for stopping by.  Please remember to leave a comment on this post to qualify for the Spellbinders Grand Rectangles set blog candy.  I will announce the winner next Saturday morning, July 27th.

  1. Oh wow, this is gorgeous! You know you are responsible for me buying the Grand Madison window and door dies? lol Your cards are so creative. I only have Susan’s tulip die so far (it’s my favorite flower), but I have my eye on many of them. This black-eyed susan is so pretty!

  2. Actually, Kittie, any flower you make is gorgeous! If I have to pick just one, I’d say the pansy. The sunflower card you made is beautiful, and I love your use of the printed paper as a background. I would have been afraid to use it, but seeing your sample, I’ll have to experiment a little.

  4. I’m pretty new to die cuts and don’t have any of Susan Teirney Cockburn’s flower dies, so u don’t have a favorite. I love how you use both color and shaping to add dimension. That’s something I hope to learn, since mine all look (and are) pretty flat.

  5. Kittie, very gorgeous card. I haven’t started yet to make any of the flowers using the dies, but one of these days.
Love the way you choose to make the paper and every thing go together so well.

  11. I really like the color combinations in this card. It’s difficult to choose just one flower from Susan’s collection, but the Black-Eyed Susan would be at the top of the list. They are so cheery to look at. Thanks for the opportunity to win your extra dies (haven’t we all done that!). Thanks also, Kittie, for continuing to share your talent.

  12. Oh my …. choose just one? Now that is HARD because I love them all. I do love the Dogwood because it reminds me of the time that we lived in Virginia when we were first married (48 yrs now). We have lived in TX now for over 30 yrs so if you could pass on to Susan that now I would like to make some Bluebells. 🙂 (TX state flower)

  94. You make all these flowers look so “life-like”! My family likes this because I have created my Christmas Wish List and they know exactly what to get for me. I love all the flowers but if I have to choose one it would be the poppy! Thanks for the opportunity to win some awesome blog candy!

  95. I had to chuckle at the duplicate buying problem. I think we’ve all been there. LOL As for my favorite die set, it changes frequently. Today I would say the poppy. Your site is a delight to visit. I always look forward to seeing what you’ve created.

  97. Beautiful card as always. Thank you for your inspiration and all the details to make your beautiful cards. I love the dogwood, pansy, rose and all the other Susan dies. But if I had to pick, my favorite is pansy. Just received it and can’t wait to use it. Thanks for the chance to win the die set.

  98. Dear Kitty,
Thank you for the opportunity to win the rectangle.
I really love your cards, also this one is fabulous. The colors are beautiful and match perfectly. My favourite flower is the poppy and also I do like the roses very much.
Everyday I read your blog and feel sympathy for you after the surgery, but writing in English is difficult for me.
I wish you all the best and I hope you will recover soon.
    With kind regards,

  99. What a stunning card Kittie! I’m just crazy over the DP you used! I’ve been so excited over the release of Susan Tierney’s flower dies. I love them all and I can’t seem to make up my mind on just one either. My favorite is a toss up between the Dogwood and the Pansy. Thanks for the opportunity!!

  100. I love the way you make all the flowers. But it is a toss-up on which is my favorite die….I’ll go with pansy – but that poppy is beautiful!. Thanks for sharing and for the opportunity to win a prize!

  102. it’s almost a tie between the Sunflower and the Black-eye Susan, but the Sunflower wins. Just bought the flower making kit with mats and tools so anxious to use it.
Thx so much for inspiring me with your daily creations. They’re always beautiful! Watching your tutorials has made me a better crafter.
