Christmas Past and Blog Candy

Good Monday morning.  My project today is a little out of my wheelhouse.  I have had the Graphic 45 Christmas Past Collection for quite a while and have rarely used it.  I love the images but it is 12” by 12” and most of the images and designs are too large for card making. I broke down and cut the cherubs out of the Ode to Joy and thought they would be beautiful on a card paired with poinsettias and holly.

I started by cutting out the frame layers.  I used vanilla cardstock for the decorative border and applied metallic rich gold Pan Pastel to it to make it match the designer paper.  The second frame layer was cut out of the backside of the paper and was attached to the base with mounting tape. I attached a folded 5” x 3” card to the back ofthe frame.

I cut the image out using my snips. I cut three sets of poinsettias out of vanilla cardstock, applied red Pan Pastel for the color and then applied rich gold pastel to add a shimmer to the flowers.  I cut the holly and pine sprigs using artichoke and applied rich gold pastel to them as well.  Sadly none of this gold glimmer shows in the photos but it’s really stunning in person.

I arranged the foliage on the base and attached with glossy accents.  I attached the cherubs image to the base using mounting tape and then attached the poinsettias with glossy accents. I tucked a few sprigs of pine around each poinsettia to soften.

I just got my order of new Pan Pastel colors this week and realized I ordered one of the colors in my Susan's Garden set.  340 Permanent Red Tint. Ugh!  I hate when I do that but it always give me the opportunity to share some blog candy with you.  All you have to do to qualify for the Pan Pastel, Sofft Knife and Cover is leave me a comment by Friday, Oct 4th at 5:00 pm letting me know if you have tried using Pan Pastels.

I have been following you for over a year and each and everyone of your cards has been an inspiration. I start my morning off with a cup of java and open my email to see what you have created. I have bought some new products because of your inspiration and have enjoyed each and everyone – but Pan Pastels – I have never seen those. I have pastel pencils so not sure what the Pans are except your flowers are beautifully colored! Continue with all your inspirations! Hugs

Dick Blick and Amazon have them at good prices and they’re well worth the budget pinch in order to get them. I don’t have this particular color and am happy for the chance to win it – thanks!

I have to keep an inventory list next to my computer to keep from buying an item over and over again because I forget I have it already. I also have a coupon holder that I carry in my purse. It contains lists of dies, inks and punches I have so that I don’t buy them again while out shopping.

favorite they are all so unique and beautiful. I look
forward, as everyone, to your emails to see what gorgeous
idea you have come up with next. I would love to try the

I do have a small set of the pan pastels and have used them only a few times. But with is beautiful fall leaves card I can’t wait to get them out and get started trying to do what you have so graceousely showed us. Just discovered your blog through this wonderful card which I spotted during a Google search for something or other :). I’m somewhat of a stamp novice & haven’t come across Pan Pastels before, but utterly fascinated, so would LOVE to win this prize to try & create some wonderful poinsettias myself.
Defo going to be returning often to your blog from here on!!

  58. Hi KIttie, I love your cards as I have told you a zillion times…lol but they are so beautiful and my inspirtation. I DID the same thing you did, I ordered the exact same color (pan pastel) and had the exact same reaction…super ugh….It is not like the color they show…but all the rest seem to be pretty on…at least the ones I do have. I have some Pan Pastel “s’ because of YOU…when you made your first card with them I went to order some…and the ones I have so far, are so pretty and a creamy chalky feel…I would love to win the pink one, I am a pink girl and just love that shade…I am just getting one or two a month..they are not that expensive, but with the Floods we have had here in CO (hardly anyone had flood insurance) we have to use the extra to rebuild part of the basement and house foundation. I am blessed though…I could have had it so much worse…like a lot of my neighbors..anyway your cards are beautiful and they make my day! Blessings, Victoria
