Masculine Christmas Scene

Good Friday morning.  I have a masculine card to share with you today using the new Impression Obsession Birch Trees, Deer Trio 2 and Fir Tree stamps.  I searched on Google for snowy birch tree pictures for inspiration and found the one below.  I was inspired by the green trees in the background and the birch tree forest.

Here’s what I came up with.

I started by applying clouds to the card base using my ink blending tool and a hand cut cloud template.  I then stamped the fir trees to create an evergreen background for the birch trees.  I stamped the first line of trees in darker green and then stamped the ink off once before stamping to create the taller trees in the background to make them appear further in the distance. I cut the frame and attached one snow ground layer directly to the back with ATG adhesive.  I applied mounting tape to the frame and attached the second ground layer over the mounting tape and then attached the frame to the card base.  I wanted the snow layers to have a separation between each other as well as from the card base for dimension.

I cut the trees and lightly sponged color on around the notches with a small dauber.  I applied small strips of mounting tape to the back of the trees and attached them into the scene.  I wanted them to stand away from the base of the card to add depth and dimension. I cut the deer, sponged color on him and attached him to the card base using mounting tape.  Check out my post here if you would like to see a few step by step pictures of how I color the deer. I added a few sprigs of pine to the ground area to create interest.  I cut three red cardinals, colored in a few details with a black marker and attached them to the scene.

Here are a couple closer views that show detail and dimension. I love how this turned.  It’s a perfect masculine holiday or winter birthday card.

  5. Kittie: Wow you’ve done it again! I just love the deer and cardinals. It is so beautiful – (everything you do is really spectacular anyway!) The cardinals and deer is so clean and simple. I adore cardinals and remember them from my childhood as they perched on the neighbors evergreen. For a moment you brought me there. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise.
