Good Tuesday morning. My project today is similar to the Weathered Carolina Birdhouse project I did a few weeks ago. I love adding interest to a card by making it look old and beaten up. I painted the frame, fence and birdhouse with crackle paint and distressed using my paper piercer and precision file set. Originally I was planning on using all three birdhouses from the new Impression Obsession Birdhouse set but ended up using just one. I built the scene around the birdhouse with the Memory Box Grand Alder Tree, Poppystamps Picket Fence, Impression Obsession Grass Border, Small Grass Border, Leafy Branch, Tiny Flowers, a few stems of Hollyhocks and the Small Bird Set. I cut the frame using my Matting Basics B set.
I cut the frame, birdhouse and fence using kraft cardstock and painted with blue and white crackle paint. I used my tools to rough up the paint and dug down into the cardstock to allow the brown to show through. I added touches of brown ink to the roughed up spots to define them. I attached the frame to the sky card base with mounting tape. I attached the fence to the front of the frame with ARG adhesive and attached both layers of grass directly to the fence another layer of ATG adhesive. I cut the tree with white cardstock, colored using a green and brown Copic marker and tucked it in behind the fence attaching with rolled glue dots. I secured the birdhouse in place with mounting tape
I cut a few sections of the leafy branch and cut them apart to create stems for the flower garden. I cut the tiny flowers, formed them with my tiny tipped stylus and molding pad and attached them to the cut branches with glossy accents. I tucked the flower stems in behind and in front of the fence and attached with glossy accents. Here’s a closer view of the garden flowers. I love how uneven and natural they are.
I added the red birds to the scene to add one more element of red to the scene and to draw the eye up since the lower half of the scene is full and bottom heavy.
You can check out my Faux Wood Frame tutorial over at the CLASSroom if you would like to see step by step photos of how I distress and age cardstock to look like old wood.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great day.

A beautiful spring garden scene, Kittie! I feel as if I am outside working in the garden, digging, and planting! This scene has transported me away from cold, and dirty snow to spring and flowers. Spring is just around the corner, although we are supposed to be getting another snow storm tomorrow. Thank you for sharing this creatively inspiring, beautiful art card.
