My project today was made using the Tree Frame, Bushel of Apples, Tiny Apples, Grass Border, Leaves and Stems and Bird set.

KC Impression Obsession Bushel of Apples 2 right

I wanted to make my apples look realistic instead of perfectly red, green or yellow.  I tried a little experiment to randomly color my cardstock before cutting the apples and I liked how it worked and thought I would share a few step by steps of how I did it.

1

Add a few drops of fired brick and shabby shutters reinker to a small piece of Cut-n-Dry stamp pad foam being careful to not let the ink overlap each other.

2

Dab the foam around on the cardstock to apply the ink.

3

smooth the ink out by swiping the pad back and forth.

4

Emboss with clear embossing powder to brighten the colors.  If your ink is still really wet you can apply powder directly on the ink.  If the ink has become too dry then heat dry, apply versa and then emboss.

5

Heat the powder and see the gorgeous pop of color.

6

I love the randomness of the red and green ink on the apples.

I started the scene by sponging in a light blue sky on the white card base. I didn’t use a cloud template to create clouds because I just wanted the blue to show through.

I cut the tree frame using light brown cardstock and applied brown ink on the trunk and branches with a mini applicator. I attached several of the stems of leaves to the branches with glossy accents.  I applied the glue on the front of each stem and tucked the stem in behind the branches so there were no ugly stem ends sticking out.

I cut a red frame and attached the tree frame to the back of it with mounting tape. I attached another layer of mounting tape to the back of the frame, tree trunk and branches.  I attached the grass border to the bottom section of tape, applied ATG adhesive along the back of the grass and then attached the frame to the card base.  I attached all the tiny apples to the tree branches using my tweezers and glossy accents.  Whew!  Talk about working with small pieces. LOL!

I assembled the baskets and apples attaching them together with glossy accents.  I applied mounting tape to the back of each basket and tucked them in to the scene.  I added a few extra apples on the ground and a few stems of leaves in the grass for the perfect finishing touch.

  1. You are the BEST at showing me how something I wouldn’t consider important, like the color of the apples, turns out to be one of the biggest elements of the card in terms of WOW factor! I love this and had thought about buying the apples…now, I KNOW I have to buy the apples!! LOL As always, just amazing and beautifully done!

  3. Well your experiment with the apples worked big time. When I first looked at this card I was wowed by the apples…so realistic.
They even look round all the way around…great tutorial. Can’t wait to use mine. I have the others we discussed months ago, but these are so nice given the different sizes. Love the way you tucked in more baskets…great card.

  5. Stephanie, I have lots of dies stored in their own envelopes(like Memory Box and Poppy Stamps)and keep them standing up on end in a boxes so I can flip through them easily and see the picture of the die. I recently purchased the Stamp-n-Storage Die Tote and Magnet Cards and am absolutely thrilled. The magnets are very strong and don’t allow the dies to slip and slide off. As a matter of fact it takes a fingernail to get under the die to lift it off. This is how I will be storing all of my new dies and am slowly working on getting all that I have stored in the totes. It is a daunting task to switch everything over as I have so many. Here is a link for you go and check the totes and cards out.

  15. Kitty, As always, I just love this card. I do more collecting and cutting out than making cards. I have tons of die cuts just waiting to be applied to something. LOL Every time I see a project made with varying colors such as this, I wonder why people don’t do what you just did. Seems like an easier way to color the paper first, then cut out, than trying to color all of those small pieces separately. You are such an inspiration. Thanks for all you do.
