My project today was made using the Tree Frame, Bushel of Apples, Tiny Apples, Grass Border, Leaves and Stems and Bird set.
I wanted to make my apples look realistic instead of perfectly red, green or yellow. I tried a little experiment to randomly color my cardstock before cutting the apples and I liked how it worked and thought I would share a few step by steps of how I did it.
Add a few drops of fired brick and shabby shutters reinker to a small piece of Cut-n-Dry stamp pad foam being careful to not let the ink overlap each other.
Dab the foam around on the cardstock to apply the ink.
smooth the ink out by swiping the pad back and forth.
Emboss with clear embossing powder to brighten the colors. If your ink is still really wet you can apply powder directly on the ink. If the ink has become too dry then heat dry, apply versa and then emboss.
Heat the powder and see the gorgeous pop of color.
I love the randomness of the red and green ink on the apples.
I started the scene by sponging in a light blue sky on the white card base. I didn’t use a cloud template to create clouds because I just wanted the blue to show through.
I cut the tree frame using light brown cardstock and applied brown ink on the trunk and branches with a mini applicator. I attached several of the stems of leaves to the branches with glossy accents. I applied the glue on the front of each stem and tucked the stem in behind the branches so there were no ugly stem ends sticking out.
I cut a red frame and attached the tree frame to the back of it with mounting tape. I attached another layer of mounting tape to the back of the frame, tree trunk and branches. I attached the grass border to the bottom section of tape, applied ATG adhesive along the back of the grass and then attached the frame to the card base. I attached all the tiny apples to the tree branches using my tweezers and glossy accents. Whew! Talk about working with small pieces. LOL!
I assembled the baskets and apples attaching them together with glossy accents. I applied mounting tape to the back of each basket and tucked them in to the scene. I added a few extra apples on the ground and a few stems of leaves in the grass for the perfect finishing touch.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy seeing all the design team projects.
Card size: 5.50” x 4.25”
Absolutely gorgeous Kittie! The extra work that you do with each project you take on shows beautifully on paper.
Oh yes, absolutely gorgeous! Your die-cut work is always amazing. I know I must get the little apples.
OMG!! You are one of the most creative women I know!! Your card is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, and you step-by-step instructions ROCK!! WOW!!
Those are some rockin’ apples (ps, would love to know how you store all of your die cuts … I’ve outgrown my current solution).
You are the BEST at showing me how something I wouldn’t consider important, like the color of the apples, turns out to be one of the biggest elements of the card in terms of WOW factor! I love this and had thought about buying the apples…now, I KNOW I have to buy the apples!! LOL As always, just amazing and beautifully done!
Precious, precious, precious! Ellen is blessed to have you designing for her Kittie, this card is just fabulous! I love all your work, but your Fall and Christmas cards are my favorites, you never disappoint! For the past ten years you have brought joy to my world with your inspiring designs! Thank you so much for sharing your God given talent with all of us!
Amazing and beautiful!
This is beautiful Kittie! Love how you used the inks to make the paper for the apples.
Well your experiment with the apples worked big time. When I first looked at this card I was wowed by the apples…so realistic.
They even look round all the way around…great tutorial. Can’t wait to use mine. I have the others we discussed months ago, but these are so nice given the different sizes. Love the way you tucked in more baskets…great card.
You have so many beautiful cards with the tree frame die that I ordered it. Can’t wait for it to get here! Keep the great inspiration coming! 🙂
Stephanie, I have lots of dies stored in their own envelopes(like Memory Box and Poppy Stamps)and keep them standing up on end in a boxes so I can flip through them easily and see the picture of the die. I recently purchased the Stamp-n-Storage Die Tote and Magnet Cards and am absolutely thrilled. The magnets are very strong and don’t allow the dies to slip and slide off. As a matter of fact it takes a fingernail to get under the die to lift it off. This is how I will be storing all of my new dies and am slowly working on getting all that I have stored in the totes. It is a daunting task to switch everything over as I have so many. Here is a link for you go and check the totes and cards out.

Thank you for your inspiration – I subscribe to your blog by email – your cards are a joy in my inbox!
You amaze me with all your tiny pieces. I tried a card last week (inspired by you) and it took forever w/ all the tiny bits that had to be glued.
Your card is so extremely breathtakling gorgeous!!! I always can’t wait to see what you will make next!!
Remarkable!!! I love it!
What a stunning scene! You create such awesome masterpieces! Most excellent artwork!
I always LOVE your creations, but especially your trees!! Thanks for the great education too!!
Wonderful card, Kittie! The stain you used to ink your paper prior to cutting your apples is fab. Love the color variations. Your design is great. 🙂
Very pretty…love how you show what products you used so it’s so easy for me to purchase even MORE dies, Kittie!
Loving what you are doing with this tree die, another terrific scene!!

You never disappoint Kitty. I love all of your cards and the techniques you share. Thank you!
This card is stunning!! I love how you colored the page before cutting the apples so they are not one solid color. Beautiful!!
Wow!!!! As usual a stunning card with plenty of detail and dimension. I love the little apples and basket die!
Amazing! Gorgeous! Spectacular! I don’t think there are enough adjectives to describe this card. Your instructions are always superb and much appreciated.
Good Morning, Kittie I totally agree with Vivian’s comments. You are a talented lady, and I am always amazed with your creations. And your instructions are tops. I love the way you colored the apples , they look good enough to eat, real for sure. I love the placement of the basket of apples bringing you into the scene. Just gorgeous an so well done. thank you, thank you for your joy and blessings everyday.
PS: thank you for your email. after I wrote the squirrels weren’t available, I also checked again an they were available in Ellen Huston, and Impression Obsession, I did write an oops! Reminds me to be more careful.
You work is incredible! I love the detail. The tree is on my must-have list!
Karen
Love this card Kittie! I look forward to see what you come up with! Thankyou for giving us such easy instructions for your techniques. I have learned so much from you already!!
Your apples are so realistic! Look your techniques. Thanks for sharing!
What can one say about your talent other than it is truly amazing and inspiring! You definitely bring down the house! TFS your truly remarkable gift with us all!
Kitty, As always, I just love this card. I do more collecting and cutting out than making cards. I have tons of die cuts just waiting to be applied to something. LOL Every time I see a project made with varying colors such as this, I wonder why people don’t do what you just did. Seems like an easier way to color the paper first, then cut out, than trying to color all of those small pieces separately. You are such an inspiration. Thanks for all you do.
Love the baskets of apples and all the texture and dimension you have on this card. The way you colored the apples is brilliant.
Oh wow! So much detail, I am loving all those apples!!!
wow, so many details, love how intricate your card is, beautiful look, love the way you colored the apples, TFS
FABULOUS!!!! Your technique on the apples is terrific and I love how overflowing your card looks with the tree and the fruit and baskets!!! What a bountiful harvest!!
