Roosters and Chickens

Good Saturday morning.  One of my favorite die sets from the new Impression Obsession release is Roosters and Chickens.  I love creating die cut outdoor scenes and these rustic images are so fun to play with.  Two of my Impression Obsession teammates, Anna and Jeanne both raise chickens as pets and I’m looking forward to seeing what they come up with these dies.  Although I have seen plenty of chickens in my lifetime I checked out all the chicken portraits on Anna’s blog.

My project today was made using the Roosters and Chickens set, Rectangle 6-in-1 Frames set, Tall Grass, Grass Border , Butterfly set. and Chicken Wire 1 stamp.

I applied clouds to the card base using a hand  cut tumbled glass distress ink, cloud template and mini ink blending tool.  I stamped the chicken wire background using pumice stone ink. Red frames seemed the perfect way to highlight the scene. I attached a couple sections of the grass border to the back of the inner frame with double stick tape and attached it along with the outer frame to the card base with thin strips of mounting tape.

I colored the chickens, rooster and chicks using mini applicators and distress ink.  I tucked them in between the grass and frame and attached with mounting tape.  I attached the the chicks in the scene with glue dots.  I thought the scene was bottom heavy and decided to add the butterflies to draw the eye up to the sky area.  I tucked in a few blades of the tall grass for a more rustic yard look.

I spent many happy summers on some friends of the familys farm growing up and besides feeding the pigs the chickens were some favorites of mine. Lovely rustic scene.
