Impression Obsession Spring 2016 Die Blog Hop Day 2

Good Wednesday morning and welcome to day two of the Impression Obsession Spring Die Blog Hop!  Our team has some beautiful projects to share and prizes to give away!  You can check out all the details on the Impression Obsession Blog.  Make sure you visit and comment on all the team posts for a chance to win.

I have two projects to share with you today.  My first project was made using the Butterfly Block and the second was made using the You Are Word Block

This is the third time I have made a card using the Butterfly Block. I am so intrigued by the intricate butterfly, flowers and leaves.  This time I cut it out using watercolor paper and colored it with bright colors using Distress Markers – Peeled Paint, Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet, Ripe Persimmon, Worn Lipstick and Squeezed Lemonade..

I carefully colored the different sections of the die cut with markers and then lightly washed them with my waterbrush to smooth out the colors. When I was finished I decided I wanted brighten all the colors so I to applied versa over the whole piece and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. All the bright colors took me back to the 60s and Flower Power.  I could just imagine this bright colorful design painted on the sides of a VW van!!!

I decided I wanted to create a see thru window instead of layering over a solid background.  I cut an a white frame and cut a matching opening in the card base using my Nesting Rectangles die set. I applied double stick tape to the back of the butterfly block and attached it over the opening on the card base.  I applied thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the white frame and attached it to the card base.  The photographs don’t really show the “see thru” to the inside of of the card very well.  When I give this to someone I’ll write my message on the back side of the card.

I love the new Word Blocks in this new release.  They really make quite an impression and yet are so fast and easy to use.  The You Are Word Block can easily be used for both a masculine or feminine project but I thought the bright bold green against an all white background made a perfect “guy” card.

I applied a Stick It sheet on the back of my cardstock and cut the word block out twice.  I peeled the Stick It backing off the first word block and  attached it to a white layering piece of cardstock. The Stick It adhesive created a perfect bond for all the letters and held them perfectly in place on the cardstock.  I attached the second word block directly over the first to add more depth and dimension to the words.

I attached the white word block layer to the green layer with strips of mounting tape.  I crimped a piece of green cardstock and attached it to the card base using ATG adhesive. I attached the layered word block to the card base with mounting tape.

  6. I love the butterfly card. Is this a die like the regular metal ones? It looks different. Is anything special needed to cut with this die? Thank you for sharing.

  17. Wow, you are the block diemeister! What a great idea to just color with markers. Tried to do this once highlighting words on one and it turned out fine, but coloring the whole thing would have been easier and prettier. xoxo
