Shimmering Surf

Good Saturday morning.  I had several beach sets on my desk from  my A Day at the Beach card for yesterday’s post so I made another card using them.  This time I created a relaxing setting with Adirondack chairs, seagulls flying overhead and a sparkly foam covered ocean.

I began by sponging the sand, ocean and sky with Antique Linen, Tumbled Glass and Broken China inks using mini applicators and ink blending tools and then heat set the inks.  I created sea foam on the water using a small palette and embossing paste and then sprinkled the damp embossing paste with crystal clear glitter.  I wasn’t sure if the glitter would stick but thought it was worth a try. Ta-dah!  It worked.  I sponged the gulls with Pumice Stone ink using a mini applicator.

I attached the scene to the card base with ATG adhesive.  The frame was then attached over the scene with thin strips of mounting tape. The chairs were tucked into the scene and attached with mounting tape and glue dots.  I formed the bird wings lightly with my fingers and attached them in the sky area with small pieces of mounting tape.  I could have actually stopped there but couldn’t resist adding the sandals and sailboat.  In this case the concept of “less is more” was totally lost.  LOL!

  2. Love love this card… the scene looks so peaceful. Do you ever use hot press watercolor paper? I’m not sure of the difference.

  3. Love this card and the one yesterday too. These are the treats on my weekends to “surf” your scenes! May I ask what color the blue paper is? It is lovely. Have a Happy 4th!

  4. Puala, Hot pressed paper is a very smooth paper, it appears more like cardstock yet is wonderful to watercolor with. Cold pressed paper has a rougher texture. They are both great for water coloring and sponging. It just depends on what you want your project to look like. I would like to suggest that if you like to paint with watercolor paper then do your self the favor of purchasing good paper. The difference it makes is amazing.

  6. Susan, I’ve had the paper for a long time and am not sure but I believe it is Stampin’ Up! Tempting Turquoise. Another paper that would work well with this is Bazzill Robin’s Egg. I hope this helps.
